rubyslippers
My husband is less than impressed with the production quality of the their videos (we watched a sample from their website), but we like the textbooks and reviews very much. What is the general consensus? Money aside, are the DVD's necessary? They look like they were done in someone's living room 20 years ago. In case it matters, Science isn't exactly my cup of tea. I prefer language studies: grammar, literature, etc. I may need all the help I can get. :glare:
mom31257
My dd did the Life Science course in middle school. I liked it so much that ds is doing it next year even though his class at co-op is doing labs for another biology course. It was a phenomenal course. Mrs. Vick is probably the best teacher BJU has to offer. When I view the sample online, it doesn't look the DVD set I have here now. I ordered it in their Leap Day sale. I think that might be an earlier version.
Mrs Twain
Seconding the statement the Mrs, Vick is an incredible teacher. She makes the course much more interesting. It is especially good to have to videos if science isn't your "thing."
GeorgiaH
We really like the BJU Physical Science DVDs. In my son's opinion, the teacher is too goofy, but he really explains the material above and beyond what is offered in the text. (He also reinforces BJU's religious worldview quite a bit, which we disagree with; however, that and his goofiness aside, my son is learning a lot.) My son is taking this class as a 6th grader, and it is listed for 9th graders; I don't think he would be able to truly understand the material without the DVDs. FriedClams
We've thoroughly enjoyed the BJU dvds from grade 6 and up. The production quality isn't awesome, but the content is excellent.
mamakelly
Some of the BJU classes are goofy, but they are 100 times better than Abeka dvd's lol!
Punks in Ontario
I agree that the videos are worth it. Mrs. Vick is great. Ds13 used them and now ds12 is using them. We do online with the December sale. I'm not into science too much either. This definitely improved the quality of the instruction.
