Holly Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 Do your DC keep a spelling tab in their LA notebook? I'm wanting to set up LA notebooks based on WTM, but my understanding is that the rules aren't as obvious in the Rod & Staff spelling lessons as they are in the Spelling Workout books. Quote
Ellie Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 Have you seen the Spelling by Sound and Structure samples? You can request them from the publisher at no charge by calling (606) 522-4348. In fact, the first section of every lesson discusses rules. Which doesn't answer you spelling tab question, lol. Quote
SilverMoon Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 I think you have Spelling Workout and Spelling by Sound and Structure backwards. SWO can be completed without ever even reading the rule. SSS will have exercises that require the DC to have information from the rule and exercises that apply the rule. Both curricula have the current spelling rule on the first page of the lesson. As for the WTM binder, you could still be writing rules if you wanted that extra step. Mine just put their spelling tests behind the spelling tab for SSS 2-6. Everything else is completed in their 2-5 workbooks and in a notebook for book 6 (textbook). Quote

How did I miss this! I have my oldest DD's 4th grade book here. I glanced over the rules section every time I looked at it. That will certainly be helpful to have it in bold print! I already ordered 2 levels, so it's a bit late to request a sample. ;) I think you have Spelling Workout and Spelling by Sound and Structure backwards. I probably do have programs confused. I've been comparing and analyzing every single spelling program out there! I forgot about the spelling tests. I really like the idea of reviewing rules once in awhile, so I think we'll be incorporating them somehow. Edited March 19, 2016 by Holly Quote
Ellie Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 FTR, Spelling by Sound and Structure is my favorite *traditional* spelling, followed by Spelling Workout. :D Quote
