Southern Ivy Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 I'm going to be applying for some administrative assistant jobs. I have the experience (years ago), but those jobs are surrounded by temp gigs and nanny positions - just jobs that paid the bills while I went to school. The job has an online application, so I won't be turning in my resume (at least not right now). So, I'm wondering about putting down my job history. Do I do all the jobs regardless of what they are? Do I only do the jobs that have the applicable experience and explain the time gaps if I get an interview? It's been a long time since I've applied for a job like this, so I'm a bit nervous. Also, is it still ok to say 'negotiable' under salary desired? Quote
bettyandbob Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 If you're doing resume only, you have a section related to just administrative experience and another section with other experience. For online I've found the expectation is to list all experience in reverse time order. These online apps sometimes have follow up questionnaires where you fill in numbers for years of xxx. Those extra questions are so the computer can sort and reject some applications. I just did one this week. In answering honestly, I knew my application would never make it through the sort. Because I know the person who would be doing the interviews I spoke to him directly and told him that my application would not get through the sort. So he has to set wide parameters if he wants to be able to include me. (I happen to have all certifications he wants and years of part time, but no full time) people told me to lie to make it through the computer sort, but I just can't. 1 Quote

Ok, that's similar to what I have been doing. Thank you! Quote
gaillardia Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 Depending on where you're applying and how much experience they're asking for, maybe you could look at other similar positions on career builder or craigslist for a ballpark figure of salary. I think most would start you out at $12-13 per hour, but if they're asking for more experience and any college or certifications...at least $14 per hour. If we're talking about more than 10 years of experience I would go above $15 hourly. I recently didn't include my timeline on my resume and got the job, but since we were moving....and I had a contact to the position too; but anyway, I didn't include any dates, just length of time at positions. I wondered if that made the difference. My experience was a LONG TIME AGO. Quote
