Liz CA Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 I have slightly wavy hair - not curly. Every time I get it cut, the stylist blow dries it flat and says she needs to do this to see if she missed anything when cutting layers. Really? My previous hairdresser cut just fine without doing this? I don't like it flattened and sometimes I don't have the time to run home and give it the water spray bottle treatment. Quote
kirstenhill Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 I have lightly curly/wavy hair and all the stylists I've had over the years always give me a choice of air dry (what I normally do at home) or dry with a diffuser. None have ever insisted on blowing it out straight (I would have said "heck no" -- I hate how my hair looks straight or brushed out). I would be more firm about saying "no" or try a different stylist. You are paying for a service, and you shouldn't be pressured into a look you don't want. 3 Quote
Guest Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 Yes, it's just how she was taught. I was taught the same. We relied heavily on dry texturing to actually form the cut, so it needed to be straightened. It's just a school of thought, so to speak. That said, just tell her you do not want it straightened at all and I'm sure she can do fine without if she is competent as it is. Quote
Tap Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 If you like the way she cuts it, and just don't like it straightened, then why not just ask her to dampen it for you before you leave? I schedule the first appt of the day, so I can go home after my cut and rewash/trim it my self. I have my hair cut dry, so I don't want it styled for the day or any product until after the cut. I have a very asymmetrical head, face and features. My ears have 1 inch difference in heights and my jaw is definitely shaped different on each side as well. When I have a short hair cut, the person cutting it often gets it uneven if they go by the traditional facial markers for the layers. Quote

I don't know why I never thought of asking to dampen it or just do it myself. I just always inwardly shake my head and head for the spray bottle. I've had terrible luck finding someone competent since I moved a couple of years ago and she does everything well except this way of cutting had me wonder what is going on. Quote
