lorisuewho Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 Next year school year I really want to use Writing with Ease 4 with my fifth grader. We did WWE 1 and 2, and then broke from that and did ELTL and then this year W&R Fable and Narrative 1. My son is a reluctant writer and clearly I have had trouble deciding what to do each year. So next year, I want to do WWE4 to get back to working on summary narrations and longer dictations. I'm tossing around the idea of also using: Killgallon Sentence Composing for Elementary School W&R Narrative 2 ORIgniting Your Writing. Has anyone used Igniting your Writing or Killgallon as a supplement? Any thoughts? Quote
Haiku Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 I have used both. It depends on what you are looking for in a supplement. If you are looking for support in writing more varied, complex sentences, then you want Sentence Composing. If you are looking for tools to develop a better writing voice, you want Igniting Your Writing. 2 Quote
lorisuewho Posted March 16, 2016 Author Posted March 16, 2016 This was helpful. Thank you. I think I'm going to go with doing Sentence composing once a week. Quote
SilverMoon Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 Igniting Your Writing breaks writing down into teeny bite-size pieces. My natural writer wanted to take sporks to her eyes over this one, but a kid who needs step by step instruction would probably do great. Sentence Composing is more about the parts and pieces of sentences, applying grammar to writing, and imitating great authors. You didn't ask for other ideas, but fwiw, Maxwell's School Composition was fabulous around that stage. And DS/7th used Wordsmith Apprentice for 5th. He was also a reluctant writer at that stage. He blossomed in his own time with that book, and really found his voice by the end of it. Quote

My son and I looked at samples of Wordsmith Apprentice, and he really wants to do that one. I think it is a great match for him! Quote
