Sarah0000 Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 There's practically no geometry in Miquon or Singapore 1-3. I've been winging a little here and there with DS, but I think he would enjoy more in this area. I took a look at the Math Mammoth Early Geometry samples and that's about the level we've already covered. The Geometry 1 samples look like exactly what I want with instruction in using a protractor and compass. I've not read good reviews about MM geometry though, mostly that its too light. But maybe that's fine if I use it as a formal introduction to geometry rather than at grade level...? I am looking at AIMS as well but it seems they break up geometry into different books and that would get expensive. Also the sample is a kinesthetic approach which is fine occasionally but DS likes visual instruction. I don't know how AIMS approaches the majority of their lessons. DS is four and has just started Singapore 2a (just textbooks). He seems able to intuit multiplication through 4x4 and has only just asked about division. He has never done routine series of computation problems except in Prodigy. I *think* he might though with geometry problems. 1 Quote
Mike in SA Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 For early geometry, MM is fine. You could also pick up a workbook from a local teacher supply store. If you find later that a subsequent full geometry course is too easy, that can be remedied. 1 Quote
Sarah0000 Posted March 18, 2016 Author Posted March 18, 2016 I just got DS started on Module 2 at code.org and there was a series involving drawing angles. He's loving the coding puzzles so I guess I better get started teaching him some geometry. Quote
EndOfOrdinary Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 Khan has a bunch of geometry set aside which you can do in isolation. It is mainly number crunching with how-to style instruction, but for younger kids that might be what you are interested in. Quote
Sarah0000 Posted March 18, 2016 Author Posted March 18, 2016 I didn't see Hands On Geometry. That looks good. DS wouldn't be interested in number crunching but would like drawing shapes. Quote
