school17777
I have an iPad that I use mostly when I am in bed to browse the web, mainly the Well Trained Mind forum. Anyway, my kids set up IMessage on my iPad so I can send them and my sister messages to their iPhones (I have an Android phone). But, I randomly get iMessages from other people (whom I know). How do they know my number or whatever to iMessage me? I don't even know it. I have no idea how to iMessage someone unless the kids set it up already for me. Jyhwkmama
If the person has an iPhone, imessage is tied to her phone number. It is like text messaging. If she has an ipad, it is tied to her email. It is like text messaging an email address.

Janeway
In settings..go to messaging. See what it says you can get messages at. I am betting that it is receiving your phone's text messages. Which, if it is, your phone might not be getting them. This is a big issue we have had before. You have to make sure the right thing is checked. So..go to the settings on the iPad..and then message..and then see what is checked for what you can be texted at.

But yes, an ipad can receive phone messages if the phone and ipad are on the same Apple ID. My DS's ipad was receiving my text messages one day because of this. But my phone is an Android and I do get texts on that. I checked settings and it uses my email address to send and receive. I get my emails on my email app, so I am so confused! I will ask my kids what is going on the next time they are around when I have my iPad out.
