Alessandra Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 Totally absorbing period drama series from Spain. Makes Downton Abbey seem boring. Netflix. 1 Quote
Excelsior! Academy Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 No, but I've seen it in the lineup. We love Downton! Thanks for the suggestion. One we've loved was Empresses in the Palace. 1 Quote
Matryoshka Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 I just realized what this was - I read the book in Spanish this year, and I forgot that's how they translated the title (in Spanish it's El tiempo entre costuras - which I'll admit is really hard to translate... The time between tailoring? Doesn't work well...) Anyway, the book was great, and I'm always looking for good Spanish shows! I'll definitely check it out! I'm so glad Netflix is getting more international TV. Dds and I are just watching the French original of The Returned - one dd watched the US version which apparently was abruptly cancelled and never explained what the heck was going on, so we decided to watch the French one and see if it had a resolution (or will have one...) Another Spanish show one of my dds found is El ministerio del tiempo, which is time-travel (but not very science based; they just walk through doors to different times - but you'll learn a lot about Spanish history). Not on Netflix, though... 1 Quote

It helps with recommendations. I would love to hear more about things you have enjoyed. Quote

Reminds me a bit of a bunch of the WB shows - pretty teens meet (apparently) supernatural danger. Lots of mystery as to what's really going on at this boarding school. And one dd and I just found from the UK is Death in Paradise - it's about a police detective and his team in St. Marie in the Carribean. It's funny and so far we've been surprised by all the whodunits, which is really unusual after you've watched a million of them. Please share any other ones you've enjoyed! 1 Quote

Our whole family loved Death in Paradise, a good, old-fashioned who done it. I will have to be at my computer to check titles easily, but several Danish tv series come to mind: Dicte (crime), Rita and its spin-off, Hjordis -- takes place in a Danish school. Schools are so different there -- run in part by parent groups. Let's see. -- Appropriate Adult (British crime), Atelier (Japanese, hysterically funny). Edited March 15, 2016 by Alessandra Quote
