Don't they have housing? I think they have a hotel and help with roommates. I also think that the fashion institute has on campus housing available in the summer for people 18+. It's pretty close too.

$200+ per night. She will be there for a month.

Pink Dorms?  The Markel?  Furnished Quarters?  Hotel Alexander?

Just some options that might be worth googling?  Dancers at summer intensives use those places frequently, but I'm not sure if the location of any of them would work for her.

The FIT Housing works out to about $400. per week for 10 weeks...sounds pricey but the neighborhood is safe and convenient.

IF your niece is comfortable in a Christian environment or IF she doesn't mind sharing a place with a bunch of potheads or guys, I can do a little research for you. My girls share a place in Queens with a friend but they have a lot of friends and acquaintances at several local colleges. Sometimes someone will go home for the summer and would like to sublet (informally) their space (hopefully at least a bed, though sometimes it is a couch and a curtain) while she is gone. There might also be a family I know who would be willing to share their spare room for the summer. Usually, that kind of thing is done for kids on missions trips or summer internships at a local church, but I can ask around!

I didn't know BAA had month long intensives. Check with Cap21 for housing ideas too. They have five week intensives and people look for roommates.

They are one week intensives, but you can sign up to take 4 sequential weeks during the summer.

She was accepted for 2 majors. I guess that's why?

Probably.  It would be really cool to be able to do one week of each, and then stick around for the final week.  Dd was accepted in 2 majors, but was only interested in one of them.

She and a friend both auditioned for several intensives.  It was interesting to compare their results, particularly which weeks they were accepted to which majors at BAA.  (Well, also interesting that certain intensives offered them the exact same scholarship packages, leaving you wondering if the price tag you see online is always discounted, sort of like shopping at Kohl's.)

I would contact the housing departments at the schools in the area to see what is available as a short-term rental.  When I was a law student at Columbia, students with summer internships in other cities were always looking for responsible sub-letters to take over their school-subsidized apartments.  One bedroom in a two- or three-bedroom place should be under $1,000/month.  The Columbia Law students tended to be very responsible, down-to-earth, and just lovely people -- so ideal roommates.  I really can't think of any weirdos from my time at school there.

If she is a Christian, I would contact Redeemer Presbyterian Church (or another large church in Manhattan) to put an ad in their church classifieds.  Many young singles find roommates and short-term living situations in the classifieds.
