Chris in VA Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 I will Xpost on the logic board, because I'm really looking for people that have used it for older kids. I'm looking at Rt 66, the Milk/Meat/Bread...books, and the girls' study for high school. What can you tell me? Quote
.... Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 I'm on a board break, but I saw this and wanted to reply for you. There doesn't seem to be a lot of people who use PAC. I'm not sure why. It's expensive, maybe? Or just not for everyone? I'm in the middle of Route 66 with a 14 year-old and a 13 year-old. I think it's excellent. We plan to use Life of Christ next...then Behold Your God...then The Inner Man. I'm thinking about buying the Proverbs study for my 11 year-old next year (the younger Proverbs study - not the high school version). For Route 66, there is a Teacher's Manual and a softcover Student Guide. We bought the Teacher's Manual that comes on CD as a big PDF, but I think there is a spiral-bound version available. I also bought a KJV Teen Study Bible to go with everything. So, Route 66 is a 1 year survey of 66 books in the Bible. Each lesson covers 1 book, basically with a couple of books over 2-3 lessons (I think the 2 books of Samuel are 3 lessons, for example). The Student Guide has discussion questions, fill-in-the-blanks, some multiple choice... The Teacher's Manual has the answers and a little extra background info. It also has which passages to read to find the answers, some memory work, some class projects, "find this on the map", I saw a trivia game in there somewhere... The end of the PDF has a review and a Final Exam. This is the first time *I've* read through all the books in the Bible, so I am learning a TON (embarrassingly). We've been talking about the individual authors of each book and that's been eye-opening for me, as well. Instead of just reading the passages they list in the Teacher's Guide, we've been reading some extra in each book. I also have them skim through each book to get the idea of what's going on. The Teen Bible has bold headers, so it's easy for them to see the main idea in each chapter. We have not been reading each book of the Bible from start to finish (just sections of each book), but reading the whole thing could be a possibility. Looking for denominational bias or anything like that...I'm not picking up on anything. We're Lutheran and I haven't had any issues yet. The questions are usually very straightforward. Stuff like: "What did Ruth promise Naomi?" and "What three promises did God make to Joshua?" As far as the other courses in the series - I read reviews on The Life of Christ and that one is supposed to be very good! We'll probably start that one next fall/winter. I'll try to check back if you have any questions. My 1 year-old boy has made it impossible for me to spend any time on here reading/posting... Anyway, hope that helps! 4 Quote
KellyMama Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 (edited) We've used several of the studies and found them to be favorites here. This year we are using Route 66 with our 14 & 15 yo DDs and our 12 yo DS is doing the 6th grade book - we really like them. I think the favorite so far has been the Pilgrim's Progress one. Wise Up was also good (Proverbs study) but my oldest DD was 12/13 when she did it and I felt like it wasn't a great fit for her age/stage so even though it's pitched as middle school I plan to wait on that one for DD #2 ;) Not sure if we will do another one next year or change things up but we've liked them so far. I haven't seen the milk/bread/meat one and I'm not sure what the one for girls is called either, but happy to answer any other questions you have about them! Edited March 17, 2016 by KellyMama Quote
