StaceyinLA Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 I know not everyone adores TT, but I'm just wondering if anyone has used their lowel level maths, and, if so, when you started it? Quote
OneStepAtATime Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 You need to give the placement test. I think TT is labeled as starting at 3rd grade, unless they have added a lower level than that. However, some 3rd graders test into higher levels than that. Some 2nd graders can do TT 3rd grade. Even some 1st graders that are really solid in basic math skills. How old is the child/children? What math background have they had? Quote
FawnsFunnyFarm Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 We began TT3 after McRuffy 1st twice, and probably will again next fall. Its worked well for us because McRuffy is advanced and TT is more on level. I know most say its behind but I whole heartedly disagree. Its right on level, most homeschooled maths are ahead of level. estelleblue Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 I started my daughter on TT3 when she was in 2nd grade. She did not struggle at all. Prior to that, we had been doing R&S Math. Quote
StaceyinLA Posted March 14, 2016 Author Posted March 14, 2016 Thanks! The child isn't ready for it just yet, but was thinking of going with the 3rd grade level possibly starting in 2nd grade (would test for sure). I was just hoping to get some opinions on it for the lower levels. It's for my grandson. My daughter is really hoping to use TT because she feels really insecure about teaching math, and knows this is something she can use all the way through HS (and with multiple kids, it'll be pretty cost-effective as well). Dgs is only starting K this year, but if she is going to do TT, she'd want to find something to use for the next couple years just to get him ready to go into that. Quote
FawnsFunnyFarm Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 I whole heartedly reccomend the workbook.… TT can NOT do it on its own! I have my kids watch the lesson, do the work in the workbook, I check it, kids fix mistakes, I recheck, this continues until its all right... Sometimes it means me watchng the lessons with the kids to see where they are getting lost, helping one one one etc. Then they enter answers into the computer. The last step lets them do bonus rounds and such. I have learned from my mistakes wi not doing all the steps.. Kids get good at "playing the system". Quote
