CatholicMom Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 I'm looking for a medium-light Spanish curriculum to start with for my kids, preferably that I could use for at least 4 of my kids. They will be ages 8, 9, 12, and 13. Does such a program exist? I would like to keep it fairly fun for this first year of foreign language, rather than "rigorous," but of course I also want them to learn. Ideas? Quote
Slache Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 La Clase Divertida. I haven't used it yet but it's on my list and meets your criteria. Quote
KBadd Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 I second La Clase Divertida. We've been doing it lightly this year with my 1st and K'er but could be used with children much older as well. Quote

SilverMoon Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 My 8, 10, 12, 15, and 17yo all use Duolingo daily. You could do as little as ten minutes a day for a light exposure, or spend more time to go deeper. The 10 and 12yos have also done about a page a day of Spanish for Children for grammar instruction, and the little one is using The Fun Spanish. Duolingo, while fabulous for review and usage, doesn't teach a lick of grammar. The little one, 2nd grade, wasn't quite there with her English spelling skills at the beginning of the year and needed some more maturity before too heavy of a language study. Thus the lighter program, and she just started Duolingo in January. She'll start SFC when she finishes TFS. Quote
HomeAgain Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Duolingo. It's free, they move at their own pace, it's set up remarkably like Rosetta Stone but without the drawbacks (expense, too much typing, buggy, not being able to recoup the expense because it has a 2 computer license..), and it's easy enough for my little one to use it. The kids can attach their profiles to each other or you to them so you can see at a glance how much each has worked during the week. Quote
