Moxie Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 http://www.livingfornaptime.com/blogging-tips/starting-a-blog/blogging-mistakes-to-avoid/ Basically, it is the same scam that the WTM forum has dealt with. These sites take basic photos (in this case a green pepper), get them a high ranking on Goggle images and then sue anyone who uses the photo. It floors me that smart people spend their lives trying to figure out how to screw people. 2 Quote
6packofun Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Can they sue if you credit the source or do you still need express permission in some form? 1 Quote
EmseB Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Can they sue if you credit the source or do you still need express permission in some form? You need permission to use the image from the owner. Quote
Guest Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 The extortion is a problem but she still broke the law. You cannot reblog someone's full content (image, article, etc) without credit, a link back, and oftentimes permission. It varies by the source item and country of origin for the content. Her not knowing that is kind of head smackingly bad. Quote
MomatHWTK Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 (edited) I'm gonna bet that the entire purpose of that post is for the blogger to earn affiliate fees from the link to the stock photo website in the last line. For those who are interested, Google allows you to search images by usage rights so that you can select ones that are free to use. Here's a good article on the topic: http://www.socialmediaexaminer.com/copyright-fair-use-and-how-it-works-for-online-images/ Edited March 10, 2016 by MomatHWTK 1 Quote
Lanny Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 There are some (reputable) web sites that permit people to use some of their images, Royalty Free. I believe even Getty offers many of their images Royalty Free now. When one uses a photo that is Royalty Free, probably they will require a link or a credit or something. To use an image, etc., without the owners permission, is asking for trouble. Quote
3 ladybugs Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 It would take me months to watermark all of my photos at this point. I have had my blog for 10 years (January 2006 I started it). Yeah I should but, ugg! Yet another thing I need to put on my pile of things to do! Quote
Wheres Toto Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 I'm pretty sure the only pictures on my blog that I haven't taken myself are links to books and stuff on Amazon. Not that I've posted much lately. I'm hoping to get back into it now that I'm home again,, so I'll keep this in mind. Quote
