Earth science textbook?

We have Plato but the only thing we are learning is endless frustration.

I'd like an open and go, get it done and move on textbook, middle school level, ideally with some comprehension questions and an answer key. I'm not hands on so I'm not going to kid myself on that, we will visit mines and labs instead. Many thanks for any thoughts.

I'm considering Holt Earth Science for next year.  It is a middle school text book and I believe that if you order it from Rainbow Resource, you get a CD with tests and activity sheets...but I'm really hoping I'm remembering that correctly!  Someone can correct me if I'm wrong!  They don't give you a huge sample and I haven't personally used it, but I've seen it recommended here.

I see what I think are some samples of an interactive textbook online from a local school district that seems to use this. I think it looks good! Thanks for posting.

We are using Holt Earth Science this year, and it is  definitely open and go. The CD has worksheets, tests, and other skill related activities. You can do as much or as little as you want. This curriculum is actually getting done this year.

CPO Earth science  Easy, straightforward, open and go choice. The website provides a lot of info so all that is needed is a text. Not great for activities, but good nonetheless.

I know curriculum is all a matter of personal choice, but I sold CPO Earth Science to buy Holt because I felt that Holt was much easier as an open and go. I didn't have to search anything out on a website and all the answers were on the CD.
