Hi ladies,

I am looking at using Bible Study Guide for All Ages next year.  I don't think I will use the student pages.  Probably just the teacher's guide.  Is there anything else I should be getting to go along with it?  Review cards?

Also - I kind of want to start at the 4th unit based on what we have done in the past with other curricula.  Will this cause a problem?

thanks!

Get the Bible Book Summary cards. They are awesome!

I really recommend going with the student pages though. The maps and timeline are all included on those sheets and unless you have tons of wall space to work with the maps and timeline that you buy from Bible Study Guide are large and designed to use in Sunday School classrooms not at home. I believe black and white copies of the maps are included in the teacher guide, but the timeline component you would have to skip.

If you go with the teacher guides, the review questions won't be as useful. In the binders they just refer you back to a previous lesson and tell you do to all the questions of a certain color (the questions are color coded). Starting in unit 4 with the teacher guides means that many of the review questions would be in the teacher guides you don't own. On the student sheets, the questions are right on the sheet, and the Bible verse references are there as well--so if you hadn't covered that particular passage with your kids, you can quickly look up the verse and read it to your kids so that they know the answer.

The teacher guides do include summaries of the books of the Bible, but not illustrated the way the summary cards are. I believe Unit 4 has the OT books summarized, but not the NT books.

One of the main issues I had with using the Teacher guide is that they would have too much reading for a single lesson at times. In the student pages they have you skipping verses and paraphrasing larger passages to cut down on reading. I started a thread recently about BSGFAA recently and you can see my example in it.

I would seriously reconsider not using the student pages. My experience showed that the guide was not that easy to use, and the part that my children loved (the pictures) were absent....I would have to draw myself (which is not one of my strong suits). I found the guide to be overly confusing, and I quickly abandoned the idea.

I don't think it will matter too much where you start; some of the review questions would probably reference stories that you hadn't covered yet, but those would be easy to skip.

Thanks for all of the replies. I'll take another look and reconsider using the student pages.

We don't use the student pages because my kids like to have one subject that doesn't require them to draw or write :)  We just use the teacher's manual.  We started level 2 because I sold level 1 last year and didn't want to repurchase it.  We have just been using the review questions from the volume we have available and it's been fine.  I'll probably repurchase the first volume just so I do have all the questions again.  I also don't use the timeline or the maps.  I've used them in the past but the only place we have that's big enough to hang them up is in our basement and we just don't go down their during school time so we gave it up.  I would like to come up with an alternative but haven't figured it out yet.

Sorry if I missed it, but how old are your children you plan to use this with? I'm asking because the Teacher's Guide in the hard binders are geared toward older students....I'd say at least middle school through adult. The student pages are fantastic for anyone younger...they are my DS 6 yo favorite subject. We are using the Primary level student pages which require the Teacher's Guide Pages which is different than the Teacher's Guide binder. The student pages for this level include maps and timelines which is great because we don't have wall space for the large maps and timeline. Hope this helps!

Good question. They will be in 6th, 3rd and 1st.

Ok so we LOVE BSGFAA ...but this year I said I was going to use just the TG, and honestly... We didn't do it. I ended up using Egermeiers Bible story Book along with The BSGFAA Bible Summary Cards and some other things added in...next year I will go back to using the student pages. And I have not figured out how to run different levels of them, so I will either run one level with all 3 or let oldest do her own and the younger two together...leaning towards a lower level all together...

I'd hesitate to just use the Teacher's Guide (binder) with the 1st grader and possibly the 3rd grader.  The binder questions are all discussion with Biblical references.  For example, "For what was the atonement money to be used? Exodus 30:16" and "Why was it necessary for Saul to escape from Damascus? Acts 9:21-25   Without hands-on, they may get bored...at least mine would. :001_smile:  I do have the binders for the older years though because it is very good.  We also use the music CD so consider that as well.

I love BSGFAA!  I'm sure you will settle on what works best for your kids because they do offer so much!
