Debbi in Texas Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 Have you found any that work? I have two trips planned with the college and I don't want to disturb my roommates. At home if doesn't matter so much because dh works straight nights. I think that I do not snore all the time, but I think that I do most of the time. What have you found to be useful? 1 Quote
Home'scool Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 The Good Morning Snore Solution! Sorry, I can't link the page because I am at work, but I snore terribly and this product works wonderful. I kind of looks like a pacifier, but it goes in front of the teeth instead of behind. It keeps your mouth basically shut so you are breathing in and out of your nose. It took me a while to get used to it. Put it in for 5-10 minutes at first, then up the time. Now I hardly notice it. It has been reported to me that my snoring has decreased or stopped nightly! Quote
AK_Mom4 Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 I got some relief from Breathe-Right nasal strips (the kind you tape to the outside of your nose). These days, I use a mouth guard that works better, but the strips helped. Quote
Ali in OR Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 Dh will use the Breathe Right strips--they're not perfect (says the one who is kept awake). I *think* the only time I snore is allergy season--I use Flonase to open up my nasal airways a bit--I can breathe through my nose! Quote
Lanny Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 I am not sure if it is "OTC" or not, but the M.D. in the "Extra" I have watched a number of times (He is a Sleep Disorder Sleep Apnea guy in Charlottesville VA) strongly recommends a CPAC device (that's how it is pronounced, but I'm not sure how it is spelled). NOTE: Frequent Snoring may be a sign of Sleep Apnea. As I recall, he said that about 50% of men and 25% of women snore. Sleep Apnea can lead to *VERY* serious issues, like premature dementia. Your post was about a few nights use of some product, but if you snore regularly, you should discuss the issue with an M.D. who specializes in sleep disorders, because if you have Sleep Apnea (2 of my friends had it) that can be very serious. Debbi in Texas Posted March 8, 2016 Author Posted March 8, 2016 You are right, Lanny, I do need a CPAP. I will try to make that appointment soon. I have a really bad confession to make. About 5 years ago, I went through a sleep clinic. Dr. said I had mild sleep apnea, but he thought if I lost weight, it would go away. He made me an appointment for three months. Told me, if I had not lost weight, I was going on the cpap. Of course, you can guess, I didn't lose weight, but I cancelled the appointment. Sometimes we do things we wouldn't let our kids get away with. 1 Quote

The M.D. from Charlottsville VA who is in that "Extra" I sometimes see when viewers in the USA are getting commercials said that Sleep Apnea can lead to premature Dementia (probably he used another word, but I'm not sure) at age 77, where "normal" people get it at age 90. There are other complications from Sleep Apnea, including I believe, Heart (Cardiovascular) issues? The M.D. in that "Extra" said that the CPAP is something you will get used to and that the possible consequences of not using a CPAP can be very bad. Get a CPAP and use it every night and good luck!
