3 ladybugs Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 I feel like I am stuck in a bundle. I am know I am not but the plunge to no TV is just so hard! I have had Fios since we moved here 7.5 years ago and it has been GREAT with internet (and TV truth be told) but I find we are not watching TV in the normal sense anymore. We watch Netflix, or Amazon or some other subscription services we have. So does Verizon Fios make it so you HAVE to have TV? Is your bill the same with and without? I don't want to switch internet because I had Comcast before we moved here and I was honestly on the phone with them at least once a month to fix things. I rarely call Verizon! So talk me into this! Alice Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 That's why we still have TV. When we priced it out it the last time our contract was up it was actually more for us to give up TV which is stupid but was true. That might be partially because we still have a landline and once you have two of the three it becomes cheaper to get the package. We had no TV for a long time, and just got it again about 4 years ago, because of the package deal thing. We still don't watch it very much at all and what we do watch is more Amazon Prime. I do like it for things like the presidential debates or the Olympics or some sports. It's still harder to find access to those without any cable. Or at least it was the last time I tried. Quote
JustEm Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 We have basic cable because internet was cheaper with it. But ww gave back the box we were renting to lower the bill some more since we don't use the cable service. Well we watch HBO go through the PlayStation Quote
Starr Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 It seems like all the companies advertise having internet and TV and phone. Dig a little online or call. We had Verizon internet without TV. Quote
3 ladybugs Posted March 7, 2016 Author Posted March 7, 2016 We don't have Fox News right now so we have been watching the debates they do on the computer (they allow you to do this). We do still have a land line but that is mainly because of our central alarm system. That is another thing I am thinking of switching (going to Simply Safe that doesn't use a land line). I am just scared to remove a land line from the house too because I remember on 9/11 it was about the only thing that worked around here. I hope that 15 years has seen an improvement in this though. Hmmm.... Quote
Butter Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 We had FIOS without TV. It was about $20 cheaper that way. Not a whole lot, but they didn't force us to have TV if we didn't want it. 1 Quote

This is us too. We don't save that huge an amount per month, but that extra $20 or so a month does add up over time. Quote
kroe1 Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 We have 300/300 Fios internet for about $250 or so a month. It is a separate account and bought alone. Most people do not need fast internet like that so cheaper, slower speeds are available. We also have Fios cable for the old people who live in my house. I rarely watch it. The rest of us use Apple TV more than anything if we watch at all. TV has become a thing of the past for most of us, but the old people keep the cable on nonstop. I think I am paying about $200 for all their channels. Quote
AddlepatedMonkeyMama Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 We've only ever had FIOS internet and a landline. Our bill is about $80/month. Quote
abacus2 Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 I don't have Fios, but I have internet and home phone without TV which still counts as a bundle with my provider. Quote
3 ladybugs Posted March 7, 2016 Author Posted March 7, 2016 Thank you everyone! I found out we are in contract till July 31. I will not forget that date (gave birth to triplets 10 years ago on that date) so I am stuck till then. I have also figured out that my alarm system needs the land line and I can't change it. This house had an alarm that would make Ft. Knox jealous and we didn't even know about it till we closed on the house! It is really hard to give up that kind of protection for me and my family and Simply Safe isn't much less (per month, plus the initial cost of the system) then what I am currently paying and they (the current alarm system) wants to upgrade us (components... they are almost 8 years old after all). I did contact Verizon and it sounds like I would be around the $90 range when we do drop TV. I just now need to determine if it is worth it or not. Quote
