Dd (15) woke with a low fever (100.2, but Tylenol brought it to normal) and a scattered rash. Her face is rashy with some clear spots so it looks splotchy. Rash is on her thighs, upper arms, chest, top of breasts, abdomen, and back. Nothing at the ends of her extremities. (I'll try to post a pic in the next post)

We've been on and off sick with cold and sinus symptoms for a while. She just finished 10 days of bactrim yesterday, and was on 5 days of steroids finished 6 days ago (sinus infection, steroids for asthma).

I don't think it's fifths because the rash started before the fever. Maybe scarlet fever, as the rash looks similar.

I can't ask too many questions of dd because she has massive medical anxiety. She doesn't seem to have a stiff neck, and has been awake, alert, and normal acting since 8:30.

I'm waiting for the doc to call back. While we're waiting, what do you think?

What was she on bactrim for? My guess is that whatever it was wasn't wipe out and flare up once bactrim is stopped.

My oldest had hives and viral rash. I can't tell the difference and the doctor always tells me to wait it out and treat the symptoms unless it worsen.

The rash could still be Fifth, and the fever may be related something else.  The Fifth rash can show up anywhere from 3 to 21 days after its associated fever.  You said that she is coming off another sickness.  Is it possible that her previous sickness was actually Fifth disease (with a late occurring rash), and her current fever is something new?

Her rash sounds exactly like the rash I had with Fifth.

My pics are too big to upload. :(

Anyway, doc called back and wanted her in, so we're here now.

Glad you are there--that was going to be my official non-medical advice.

Hope your daughter finds comfort soon!
