umsami Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 Good/important article that I came across today. "Rape Culture is a term coined to explain the very public and often pervasive attitudes in society that highlight coercion and control as central to a culture where sexual objectification exists. And while many parents discuss with older children and teens how to improve their safety in this culture, families are often silent about these issues during the early stages of childhood development. Yet it is during this crucial period that parents can give children the most effective tools to recognize these high risk attitudes in society." 4 Quote

Anne in CA Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 This is so important. Sometimes I think our society is going backwards in terms of objectifying women. Most of the characters in my unpublished novels are strong women who are preyed upon by people like this because that has been my experience in this world. It doesn't seem to be getting better. My dd (16) has been called a sl*t several times this last year by random people trying to make her feel bad. Since she is simply a very beautiful young woman who is very well behaved and has a gracious personality this is a way to put her in a box, which I HATE. I thought about starting a thread on people who call her this, but it just makes me too sad. Quote
