I have been using Duke Tip's syllabus. My child hated the disk, so, we are just following the assignments and then doing the chapter tests in the book instead of on the disk. But, I have also been having him do all the algebra reviews, the self tests, and chapter reviews.

Is this overkill? Should I let it go? I was writing out the remainder of the year and we are basically on track to finish at the end of the year, but, I do not want to overkill with all this review. It would be nice to have a little bit more relaxed time at the end of the year, fit in a few field trips to museums before public school lets out for the summer (without having to run in to summer with the math). Plus, I was sort of hoping to fit in other things over the summer. (like statistics, etc).

What do you think? Stick with just the Duke Tip syllabus? Or continue with adding the extra in?

I think it depends on the student you have.

I think the algebra reviews in that book are pretty simple. My son is using the book this year, but we are doing some algebra 1 review with other materials and not using Jurgensen's. He is taking it with a class that uses their own tests, but he usually does the chapter test to prepare and review for the test. He doesn't do the self tests or chapter reviews. But YMMV as to what is needed to cement the material.

I agree that it will depend on the kid. I've added to the Duke TIP syllabus - both problems from specific sections of each chapter, algebra reviews, and chapter reviews.

We do use the CD & their (proof-based) tests. The algebra review is light, but it gives her a light day to catch up on other things. I use the chapter & unit reviews for cumulative review - which we need. Besides, we mostly do the odds for those extra sections, so it isn't that much extra for us.

If you want more relaxed / finish quicker, then by all means, drop some or all of the extra review. If he does find on the chapter tests without the chapter review problems first, I'd drop them. Does he need the algebra review?

These are questions you will need to address & answer to find the ultimate way forward.

:iagree:   My DS is using the Duke TIP syllabus as is, no additions. He's been doing great on tests, so I haven't felt the need for extra review.

We're using it with Seton this year. They definitely assign the self-tests and chapter reviews. I will find out about the Algebra reviews by tomorrow (my son is out and I can never find anything in his room).

Seton does not assign the Algebra reviews. Kind of wish they did.

We have been doing Keys To Algebra along side for review too, so I wonder if assigning the algebra reviews from the book is a waste.

Can someone point me to where I would buy the Duke syllabus? It doesn't seem to be on their website.

They have taken it from the market temporarily. I got it after they pulled it, only because I had requested it before. So they were nice enough to still send. So, I guess I probably got in there at the end. They say they intend to fix it and put it back out there.
