JadeOrchidSong Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 (edited) I am menopausal. Haven't had a period for 6+ months. I don't notice hot flashes, but I statted to have this crazy itchiness all over my body, especially on my neck and breast, near and under my armpits, around my waist, on the general back and thighs. There are rashes and red raised spots, too. I have applied some Udder Balm and drink lots of water. This is so insane! What do you do with this? Also what less known menopausal ailments are you joyfully dealing with? ;-) Edited February 29, 2016 by JadeOrchidSong Quote
gardenmom5 Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 are you sure it's menopause and not some sort of yeast skin infection? there are other things that can cause general itchiness. my longest stretch was in 2014. then it was like everything completely reset. I want to be done, but my body doens't 'get it'. I'm already past the 'average' age . . . 1 Quote
Bluegoat Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Hmm I did not know that was a menopause thing. I used to get terribly ichy when I was pregnant though. Quote
SparklyUnicorn Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Could even be eczema. My kids get that this time of year, my guess, because it is so dry with the heating running most of the time. I'd like to be done. I don't know when that will happen, but I have odd stuff happening here or there. I never know what is normal or not. No women in my life to ask. Quote

Pawz4me Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Echoing the others -- I wouldn't assume that type of itchiness is due to menopause. And I say that as someone who told herself for several years that numerous minor and not-so-minor symptoms were "just menopause." Turns out I was hypothyroid. If I hadn't assumed everything that was happening to me was due to menopause I would have probably gotten medicated a lot sooner and had a better quality of life during that time. 2 Quote

JadeOrchidSong Posted February 29, 2016 Author Posted February 29, 2016 Did you recently stop taking Zyrtec by any chance?bI have not taken Zyrtec at all. But I recently stopped taking citalopram for maybe three weeks. I just resumed it yesterday. Quote
Lolly Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 My odd symptom is nose bleeds. Every. stinking. month. It seems it has to do with a general thinning of tissues. Not common, but definitely related. Quote
PrincessMommy Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 I've never had hot flashes either, but I've suffered more emotionally and physically. I know that's not really a lesser known peri-/menopausal symptom, but that's how mine has presented. Also, sleep has been more difficult. And I do have itchiness... although I've attributed that to thyroid issues. 1 Quote
SparklyUnicorn Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Did you recently stop taking Zyrtec by any chance? That happens to me when I stop taking allergy pills after I've been taking them regularly. Quote
JadeOrchidSong Posted March 1, 2016 Author Posted March 1, 2016 I have resumed citalopram now for two days. I will see if the itchiness will be relieved. I have been taking this for four years now. It is very likely that it is the withdrawal symptom. 3 Quote
