Wheres Toto Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 Dh and I have decided it's time I quit my job and return home to teaching the kids. I'm very excited :hurray: but figure I better jump right in to planning since I have to finish up this year and plan for next year. For the most part, I'm going to have the kids continue with what they are currently using (a bunch of Evan Moor stuff, Math Mammoth, WWE) at least through the end of this year, then slowly transition through the summer. I'd love some feedback on the thoughts I'm currently having since I'm definitely out of practice on this planning stuff and with ds entering junior high I feel like it's time to step things up. :tongue_smilie: What I'm thinking for next year: Math: DD (4th grade) will continue with Math Mammoth 4, Evan Moor Skill Sharpeners Math, and Daily Word Problems DS (6th grade) will start Jousting Armadillos either concurrently or instead of Math Mammoth 6 (I've seen both methods suggested here, we'll see how it goes). Wrtiing/Grammar: Both: Brave Writer - Neither of the kids are great with writing. DD just started doing WWE1 and DS just started WWE3 (after completing 1 and 2). We will continue with those while also doing some activities from Jot It Down, then move to Partnership Writing. Literature and Vocabulary: DD - Mosdos Press Ruby, and novels with online guides DS - Mosdos Press Pearl, and novels with online guides, Words on the Vine or a similar word roots program Spelling: DD will continue with Evan Moor Skill Sharpeners Spelling until she finishes (6th grade) and then do a word roots program like ds. DS - correcting the spelling in his writing, word root program Handwriting: DD is finishing up HWT Cursive and then copywork DS will work on handwriting with his copywork History: Both: They are currently doing US History. We'll finish that up in the next few months and then move into Ancients using SOTW, Usborne Encyclopedia of World History, the Pandia Press timeline, and lots of other books Science: Both: While we are finishing up US History, we're going to do an evolution/prehistory study (they requested but I like the way it will lead into Ancients) Once we finish that, they've requested habitats, zoology and botany (In the Spring when we do the garden). I have RSO Life and various other resources. We also do a 4-H STEM club, may join/start a Lego Robotics group, and will do nature study. Art: Both: I'm looking at Harmony Fine Arts for the fall and doing art as it follows along with History. Music: Both: I'll be teaching them to read music in the next few months, then in September they will probably start lessons - guitar for dd, keyboard for ds. They also both do choir at church. We'll also do the music from Harmony Fine Arts. Foreign Language: Both: They are doing Spanish and we will continue that Phys Ed: Both take swimming lessons once a week, do Tai Kwan Do (can go up to 6 times a week), and I plan to add daily walks/bike rides with the dog Too much? Not enough? What am I forgetting? Thanks :D 1 Quote
