One more DO question! :) Student workbooks

Recommended Posts

So, I signed dd up for DO Alg 2, but the promised email with info about the course/materials has not arrived (it's been a few hours - perhaps it just takes a while?  I'm used to confirmation emails being almost immediate...).

Anyway, what has arrived is a coupon for 30% off at Lulu, which I know is where you get the student workbooks.  I'm not sure if this coupon was generated because I signed up at DO (it came directly from Lulu), or if it's just a fortuitous coincidence, but... it expires at midnight.

I do pay extra for the workbooks, yes? They're not included in the price of the class?  Because if I do have to pay for them, I'd rather get 30% off, but it would be my luck that the email explaining all this will arrive just after midnight, so I figured I'd ask the Hive who knows all... :)

You can usually download the workbooks for free. It's just printing cost if you need hard copies (which I recommend). The workbook was very useful to have so that I didn't have to do all that printing. Yes, it's an extra cost. Caveat: our experience was from over 2 years ago. Things could have changed.

You can either use the pdfs that are available with the course and print the workbooks, which are actually a combination of skeletal notes and practice problems, or you can buy preprinted workbooks from Lulu.  We've done it both ways, and I've finally decided that I prefer to print them myself, that way I can separate the notes from the practice problems, which makes record keeping easier.

As for DO's confirmation emails--my sense is that this is not an automated thing, that he does it by hand.  My experience with this is that the course usually gets activated with a couple of days of signing up.

I think so too. I remember it took a few days for him to get back to us but when he did he answered all of my questions thoroughly.

DO does not have an automated response. He will set up a student account for your child within the next few days and send it to you. I have ordered from Lulu and and printed it myself. My girls take classes with DO in the Atlanta metro area so have a nicely bound workbook has made life easier. Kind of fun fact - his students' names appear in the word problems, and he personalizes them by including their hobbies etc. His students absolutely adore him.

Well, that explains the delay. :)

I bought the workbooks - don't want to miss the 30 % off!
