Kristie in Florida Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 We have been blessed by the ministry of The Book Samaritan. I know that some of you donate your used curriculum to them. I have no way of knowing if we were just blessed by your donation, but we are SO VERY THANKFUL so I wanted to jump on and say thank you, Thank you thank you thank you. Even if these books didn't come from you your donations have helped The Book Samaritan which then helped us. Someday when our (personal) circumstances are better I hope to will donate to them as well. :hurray:  14 Quote
happypamama Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 Have not personally had experience with Book Samaritan, but I have been the very grateful recipient of a lot of school materials in the past, and it's a wonderful blessing! How lovely for your family! Quote
Kerileanne99 Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 (edited) Can I just say that whilst it would be cost prohibitive to box up the college level science textbooks we own to send to Book Samaritan, hubby gets constant new copies from publishers hoping to persuade the dept to adopt them, and it would be unethical to sell them)... If you are really in need of a book (these will be primarily college level secular textbooks!) please send me a pm! Edited February 27, 2016 by Kerileanne99 1 Quote
displace Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 I've never even heard of that. How cool! Quote
Lori D. Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 :hurray: :hurray: Oooo, VERY exciting! Can you share with us -- list a few items you received for "Curriculum Christmas in February"? :w00t: 2 Quote
historically accurate Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 Oh, I'm so glad to read this! I have sent books to them in the past, but I was never exactly sure that anyone actually received them. So this is so good to hear! I have another pile ready to go out to them this spring. I will donate with confidence now! I know of 3 people in my area who have received books from Samaritan in the past. Quote
Kristie in Florida Posted February 28, 2016 Author Posted February 28, 2016 :hurray: :hurray: Oooo, VERY exciting! Can you share with us -- list a few items you received for "Curriculum Christmas in February"? :w00t: Saxon Algebra 1/2 second edition textbook and solutions manual Exploring Creation with General Science first edition text A book that has activities for toddlers. I have forgotten the title. I mentioned in my letter that I technically didn't need anything for DS but if they had anything it would be appreciated. They threw in a Care Bears coloring book too. :) I can easily do history and language arts with what we have here (and the library) but math and science was what was concerning me. We quite literally have no budget for school next year because of some unfortunate circumstances. My best friend tutors her in Latin and provides the textbook (he is a saint!) or I probably would have asked for Latin too. I'm still trying to figure out if she should do anything for logic since it is seventh grade. I've read every thread here on homeschooling for free or almost free but my daughter hates to read online textbooks and printing at our library is ten cents a page. 2 Quote

We were recipients of a lovely box from Book Samaritan several years ago, and it was a blessing. Thanks to whoever donated those items. Since then, we have always passed on most of the materials that we no longer need (I keep some things out of nostalgia). OP -- I am praying that your situation will change for the better. God is good, and He is faithful. Hang in there. :grouphug: 4 Quote
fourisenough Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 So glad to hear this. I have many things we no longer need, but I don't want to go to the time or trouble of selling them; I'd much rather be able to donate to a well-run organization. Book Samaritan it is, then! 1 Quote
sweetpea3829 Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 Book Samaritan has been a blessing to us as well. The year my husband broke his leg and was out of work for 7 months...somebody told us about them and they were such a help. Then last year, he took a new job, much closer to home, but with a massive paycut (30%). Book Samaritan came through again. Such a blessing. 4 Quote
