Lecka
My 10 y.o. son loves the Wings of Fury series by Tui Sutherland. I have not read them, so I don't know what they are like (I have read sections). But it is one of his favorite series.

eternalsummer
mine liked Eragon (a girl, same age) but possibly the reading level is a bit higher (and certainly the books are a lot longer!)
purduemeche
Spiderwyck (or Spyderwick?) is another good series at that level.
Momling
Any of Eva Ibbotson's kids books (not the YA romance, but the fantasy ones.)
Tanaqui
Candy Shop Wars I found this series to have some really weird and off-putting racial descriptions, and ultimately decided to give it away rather than hand it off to my (biracial) kids. I've had similar issues with other books by that author, and strongly suggest people pre-read before buying. Any of Eva Ibbotson's kids books (not the YA romance, but the fantasy ones.) She also has a few middle grade historical novels which are worth checking out. OP, my kiddo at that age fell in love with The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles and she still pulls it out for frequent re-reads two years later. She's also a fan of The Gollywhopper Games. I could probably think up more, but I have to run up to the Bronx to pick up the girls from Grandma's, and from Staten Island on public transportation it's... well, it's very long trip. So no time for a long list of books :)
