OnMyOwn
Has anyone had a child take this class? My son is taking La Clase 2 and I suspect he will walk away with a B, but it is getting tough for him. Certain grammatical concepts have been difficult and he has a lot of trouble with answering "on the spot", so every class is stressful for him. Right now Sr. Gamache had the class reading a book in Spanish during the class, so my son is translating the whole thing into English and writing it out so he already has it ready for the class. I guess I'm wondering if there is a lot more speaking in class in Spanish 3? I would think so. And is there a big jump in the amount of homework? samba
Hi, My dd16 is in Spanish 3 with Sr. Gamache right now. There is quite a bit of speaking in the class. The workload seems similar to last year. Light weeks/heavy weeks. My dd has said that she spends more time on Spanish than anything else (and she has a typical 11th grade schedule including pre-calc). This class has challenged dd but I think she will say that it has been one of her favorites. Dd does not have a natural flair for languages; she has never been able to roll her "r's" fluidly. She works hard and does her best and so far that has served her well in this class. Dd isn't home right now so I will ask her your questions and clarify as needed.

If you talk to your dd about it, would you ask her if she feels like there is a lot more speaking this year than last and if it is all more spontaneous or if she knew what kind of speaking she'd have to do before class. samba
She said the amount of spontaneous speaking and planned translation is very similar to last year in Spanish 2. Sr. does more speaking in Spanish to the students this year but it is usually easy to figure out what he is saying from context. She said they do go into "breakout rooms" more often to translate and answer stories, sentences, etc. with a partner.
