Shoes+Ships+SealingWax Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Has anyone used Artistic Pursuits: The Way they SEE It? Is it worth the $50, or would I be better off saving my money for 1st grade when DS is older & we start the Classical cycle? Most likely if we don't use A.P. we'll follow the lessons in ArtTango (free) & just move from year to year as we finish the projects... Quote
carriede Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 I have TWTSI and have only used it a few times (I didn't have/make the time to do it). After pursuing Art Tango for about 2 minutes, I'd say the main difference is that TWTSI has children make art based on what they see. It also begins each lesson with a colored print from a professional art work. For example, one lesson starts with a painting of a stormy sky somewhere in Spain..? The book tells the teacher to ask the children questions about the details in the painting. Then you are to have them go outside to look at the sky and create a picture of what THEY see using the suggested medium (chalk in this case, I think). Another lesson starts with discussing a painting of a vase of flowers. Then you are to provide a real vase of flowers and elements of nature for the children to look at and paint. Do I think it's worth $50? No - I bought mine used off of homeschool classifieds. I do like it though, and I want to use the AP series in the future. But I think with K art, it's more about just experiencing the tools/mediums. HTH! Quote
Shoes+Ships+SealingWax Posted February 25, 2016 Author Posted February 25, 2016 Thanks, this is exactly the information I was looking for! I can easily add in a related art print each week to our ArtTango lessons for Picture Study. I also plan to use AP for primary (elementary), but for K it seemed a bit silly. 1 Quote
AdventuresinHomeschooling Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 I got it for free, and it's fun. I'd never pay $50 for it. First lesson was draw a flower after looking at a work of art on flowers. The next book goes in much more depth, and you can start it in k or 1st. Just get your child confident in doing art from things they see or imagine. Quote
Slache Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 Every mother's day Homeschool Buyers Coop gives away a small, inexpensive PDF. There are a few to choose from. Last year I got How To Teach Art To Children and I really like it. I think it's better than Arttango. Quote
