DesertBlossom
Don't quote please. There's an organization that will pay for up to 6 months or up to $500 of a class or lessons for kids of deployed military members. Really amazing! The money has to be sent directly to the teacher or organization. There's a gym that offers a variety of classes-- gymnastics, skateboarding, parkour, etc. It would be super convenient to have all the kids in the same place at the same time. :) For the first kid its almost $150/month but the price goes down for each additional kid For example, the third child is only $50/month. So if it were just one child signing up, this organization would pay for just 3 months worth of classes, but the 3rd child could get 6 months worth. Is it shady to ask the gym to create invoices that take the same total cost of all the kids signing up and divide it evenly among them so they all could get 6 months worth of classes? Guest
I don't think it's shady if you still pay the amount you would pay anyway. However, the gym may not be able to do it, if there is something they have to file that indicates that this portion of the fees is coming from the non-profit. PentecostalMom
If you're not shorting anyone any $$, then I don't think it's shady. Proud wife of a disabled vet here!
sassenach
No, I don't think it's shady. I hope it works out for you!
goldberry
I don't think it's shady, but if the gym doesn't want to do it I wouldn't be annoyed with them.
hjffkj
Not shady at all. Dh's work has a similar discount per person in a family signed up. When I first joined my brother was already taking classes. We asked them of they'd slip the discount between the 2 of us since we lived in the same house but each paid for ourselves. So instead of him paying 100 and me paying 50, we each paid 75. Of course the gym may say no but there is nothing wrong with asking.
Arcadia
Does your gym have a no refunds policy? The gym my kids went to have sibling discounts but all in one invoice per term with the sibling discount clearly stated. This is because they allow refunds and the refund amount if a sibling quit is for the lowest discounted fees.

If the gym is willing to charge that way then that is fine. It would be shady to re-do the invoices yourself, though. You are just making the non-profit dollars go further for your family and those who work with you.

But the organization offering the grants says that if the child doesn't end up doing the activity then the grant must be repaid. And I don't know if they'd offer a 2nd chance to sign up for something else. This gym does offer free trial classes so the kids can decide for sure if it's something they want to do. DesertBlossom
Thank you for all the replies. I'm not usually one to jump all over free stuff, but there are some things we just won't do this year without dad (like camping!) so having something extra fun to do sounded nice. I actually have 4 eligible kids, but there's no way I could be running them around to 4 different activities. Something they all could do sounds ideal, which is why I'm hoping this one will work out. I haven't talked to the gym rep yet about it. We've just signed up for the free trial class so far.
happypamama
I do not think it's shady at all, and I think it's a really lovely thing to do (although I'm sorry you won't have dad around). I would have no problem asking for that, since you're not shorting them money at all.
maize
If the gym is why willing to bill it that way I do not see a problem at all.
DesertBlossom
I was worried it would look shady to the organization giving the grants since the invoice would show different prices than what is stated online. And with price adjustments, the 1st child would get more lessons than he otherwise would. But, now that I type that out, I can see why the gym might not want to do it. That never occurred to me. Doh. Hopefully they will be willing.
wendyroo
If the gym can't accommodate your plan, you could also ask then if you could come in monthly and "renew" your membership with the kids in a different "order". January - $150 for Alex, $100 for Beth, $50 for Caleb February - $150 for Beth, $100 for Caleb, $50 for Alex March - $150 for Caleb, $100 for Alex, $50 for Beth Etc Wendy
Tsuga
I think if you explain the situation, the management may be willing to work with you. This is a grant situation and they may be used to fulfilling special requests for grants. Good luck. With a military spouse and four kids you NEED this!
