GAPeachie Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 (edited) I fell down our porch stairs in October the day I found out I was pregnant. At the time we were most worried about my ankle that I couldn't put pressure on. I went to Urgent Care and they confirmed my pregnancy. We decided not to do Xrays and the doctor said I had a terrible sprained ankle and that it would have been better if I had broken it. Ouch. I also took off ALL the skin off my right knee. I hobbled off and on and my ankle has s.l.o.w.l.y. gotten better. Then I miscarried. I noticed that my ankle bothered me after really long walks (we frequent a theme park nearly every week) and uneven surfaces (beach, hills, etc.) At first it was the ankle and my knee and then it was just my knee. After awhile, I didn't notice any pain. Then earlier this month, we snorkeled for most of a day. I was walking on sand too. That night I was sore, but I thought it was just because I used muscles I didn't normally use that way. The next day walking was painful but my DH was sore too. I didn't think much about it. I took an anti-inflammatory. Last week, we walked Animal Kingdom on Wednesday. On Thursday, I noticed my knee was very sore. I iced it and took an anti-inflammatory. Saturday we had company in town and walked the beach and the pier. By that evening I was in a great amount of pain. I have a very high pain tolerance but it was enough that I mentioned it to my friend at her house which is something that has only happened once or twice in my adulthood. Sunday I rested but did one trip to Super Target. Monday we had co-op and I walked up and down a smallish hill and spent the majority of my day on my feet. Last night, I was in terrible pain by the time I drove home. Today, the pain is radiating UP the inside of my thigh. The side of my knee that hurts is the inside of my knee where it touches my other knee when I put my legs together. I have a little bit of tenderness behind my knee too. What on earth have I done? I can bend and straighten my knee when sitting but when I stand it sends shooting pain!We called my GP and he said he would just refer me out to a specialist so since my insurance allows self referral, he gave me the name of the practice he suggested. Friday at 8 am, I have an appointment. But at this rate, I'm not sure how much longer I can tough it out at home. In my experience, ERs aren't super helpful with these things other than giving pain meds, but I have some of those at home... Edited February 23, 2016 by GAPeachie 1 Quote
zoobie Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Probably jacked your ACL. Hope your doctor's appointment goes smoothly! Quote
GAPeachie Posted February 23, 2016 Author Posted February 23, 2016 Probably jacked your ACL. Hope your doctor's appointment goes smoothly! UGH. I was hoping that since I could bend and straighten my knee that it would rule that out. I did call and ask to be put on the cancellation list. Quote
zoobie Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 And I just re-read more carefully. I'm so sorry for your loss. Quote
GAPeachie Posted February 24, 2016 Author Posted February 24, 2016 And I just re-read more carefully. I'm so sorry for your loss. Thanks. It threw me for a loop this fall. We had lots of hard conversations with our children that are now old enough to understand a loss. My previous losses were before they could understand. It made things different. For a short time period, I felt guilty like I had caused the loss by falling. Then my very realist husband reminded me that I've fallen in EVERY pregnancy. I'm just clumsy! Quote
GAPeachie Posted February 26, 2016 Author Posted February 26, 2016 I'm still having issues. Now I have pain going up my thigh AND down my calf. I've been icing, resting, etc and nothing seems to be getting better. Ortho appt tomorrow at 8am. DH is driving me because OF COURSE, it's my right knee. 1 Quote

TravelingChris Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 It could be a blood clot. They sometimes happen after a lower leg injury and they can cause pain like this. It's called Deep Vein Thrombosis. Quote
GAPeachie Posted February 26, 2016 Author Posted February 26, 2016 (edited) So I saw the ortho this morning. We did Xrays and then he did a physical exam. He found a hip issue that most likely is because I've been babying my knee. I'm going to get to the chiro and see if an alignment helps. I should have done that when I fell in October but I drug my feet on establishing care with a chiropractor because I'm SO VERY PICKY. LOL Anyway, he thinks it is my meniscus. I got a cortisone shot that was no joke. I told him I'd rather give birth without pain meds. I got lightheaded and thought I was going to faint which is very unlike me. My 6 year old was fascinated. I don't know whether to be proud or disgusted. He is SUCH a boy. It was odd being numb but walking. We picked up breakfast and brought it home. I ate and then crashed. I've been sleeping poorly due to the pain. I'm glad I fell asleep and took advantage of the time I was numb.. because now my knee is ticked off. He gave me a paper at the office that said it would be and to take an anti-inflammatory and use ice. That it is normal. I have a follow up for 6 weeks. I'm hoping that this works and that I'm back to walking theme parks without pain soon! Edited February 26, 2016 by GAPeachie Quote
zoobie Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 I hope that fixes everything! I'm assuming you live near the Mouse. If you do need more, a friend has an ortho there who did her husband's knee surgery and apparently walks on water. ;) Quote

My paperwork says 1-2 days before the steroid starts working and to rest. Soooooooooooooo.... I wait and look around at everything the needs packed. LOL Quote
