Hunter Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Longfellow wrote some historical poems. Tennyson? Can we list some poems/poets that teach history? There are many curricula that use historical fiction to teach history. What about poems? Quote
KrissiK Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 I like Byron's "The Destruction of Sennacherib". It's got such great rhythm. 2 Quote

Hunter Posted February 21, 2016 Author Posted February 21, 2016 Did Byron write many history poems? The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere is by Longfellow. Ella Frances Lynch writes quite a bit about Longfellow in her book Educating the Child at Home. He wrote many history poems that are not just about a historical event or person but teach history. Jessica, thanks for the links! Quote

Hunter Posted February 21, 2016 Author Posted February 21, 2016 Thank you ladies! I don't remember any previous threads on this topic. I don't know of any educators other than Ella Frances Lynch that use poems like this. Have I missed anything that anyone here knows about? There are probably bits here and there in the vintage TM's that I didn't fully recognize. Quote
