mathmarm Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Is there any chance that you wonderful moderators will be able to get rid of it again? I don't remember it always being there. Quote
Susan Wise Bauer Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 It's actually important to know whether someone went back and changed a post from its previous form, especially when other posters react strongly to what was originally said. And it's also important for you all to know when (for example) I have edited a post while moderating. Quote
Spy Car Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 It's actually important to know whether someone went back and changed a post from its previous form, especially when other posters react strongly to what was originally said. And it's also important for you all to know when (for example) I have edited a post while moderating. Previously there was a "window" of time for corrections. Not sure if it was purely time-based, or if another post being added into the thread was a limiting factor, but one had a window to correct typos without the "edited by" feature kicking in. Could we please get that back???? No one wants typo filled posts. The edited by is off-putting for typos. Please give a window. People reacting strongly to posts generally quote the posts in any case. Bill 1 Quote
TranquilMind Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 I disagree entirely. Please do NOT give us a window of time to edit or delete. Sometimes delicate topics are posted that are later removed or edited. Please leave this feature alone. 1 Quote
mathmarm Posted February 21, 2016 Author Posted February 21, 2016 Additionally, when you edit your posts, the Edited By line only reflects the most recent edit. I can edit the same posts 10 times in an hour and you'd only see that it had been changed once anyway. Please re-instate the ability for individual users to toggle that on and off. 1 Quote
Spy Car Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 5 minutes? 3 minutes? That's the way it was for a long time. Now there is zero time for editing typos. Bill 3 Quote
Barb_ Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 I agree; I think 90% of my posts have an edited by line because of autocorrects. At some point there are so many of them that the line loses any meaning. The window was nice because I could do a quick proofread (can't see the whole long thing on the phone) and pop back in to fix silly things that make me look stupid. 4 Quote

Do you think less of other posters because they refine their earlier posts, either for typos or for clarity or for tone? ETA: I like editing and do it often. Sahamamama Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 Maybe the "edited by" feature could be just for the Chat Board (where there seems to be more of a need to keep track of when something was said), but not for the Education Board (where most edits would probably be for typos)? Quote
Harriet Vane Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 Honestly, I don't see what the big deal is about the "edited by" byline. If the topic is inflammatory, I like to have it there. I think it's important to know when a post has changed. And if I have edited for a type, it takes seconds to simply note, "edited for typos." 1 Quote
