Ginevra Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 Are you shocked? She did what she said she would not do. Are you, "Meh. I knew she would write this book."? Are you excited? Are you putting in your advanced order? I haven't decided. I hated the Epilogue in the last book; hated the preposterous choices of names, hated the rush finish. Plus - "All was well." Still - more Harry Potter! From the Mastermind herself! Intriguing... Quote
MrsWeasley Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 I don't know. I have a hard time imagining that a screen play will live up to all my Harry Potter dreams. 3 Quote
Lady Florida. Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 (edited) Meh. I think she told a wonderful story in seven books. Beyond that I think she's milking it. I'm not excited. The story ended. Leave it be. I didn't read A Casual Vacancy because I waited for reviews. When they started coming out I was glad I didn't rush out and get it (or pre-order). I've enjoyed her detective novels under the pseudonym and will continue reading that series. Edited February 15, 2016 by Lady Florida 8 Quote

We'll, I'm glad I read a review that said stick with it. I LOVED that book. 3 Quote

SKL Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 My kid will want to read it. I'll probably read it too. Her style is so readable, it isn't a big investment of time. Why not? 3 Quote
PeacefulChaos Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 I'll read it, I'm sure. I'll take it in stride, as something that *isn't* necessarily the same as the original 7. I'm a bit excited for more of the HP universe to unfold, but that doesn't necessarily mean that I'll be disappointed if it isn't amazing. I don't know how to describe it. I'm looking forward to it. And that pretty much sums it up. :P 2 Quote
Kristie in Florida Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 I feel like too much changing and she should leave it be. 2 Quote
GeorgiaH Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 I couldn't even finish A Casual Vacancy; the characters were so mean! But I have enjoyed her detective stories; I'm eagerly awaiting a third novel! 1 Quote
Mabelen Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 I just want to have an excuse for my younger dd to experience the Barnes and Noble's mid night parties! I went with my older dd to one or two. I think I am nostalgic maybe? I am cautious about how much we will actually like the book. 2 Quote
JustEm Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 I'm not excited. I tend not to enjoy when authors are unable to let a great story end. Sort of the same as when a TV show goes on too long so the last season or two are awful. 4 Quote

She was 9 when ahe read the first one and a 17yo senior when the last one was published. Harry Potter was so intertwined with my oldest kids' childhoods. I cried more than a little when the last book was published. I felt silly, but I think it was symbolic to me. 6 Quote
Butter Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 Well, it's not a book exactly. It's a script. People were begging for a way to be able to see or read Cursed Child without having to be in London. So they are releasing the script. I'm excited :) Honestly, I think she should feel free to milk the Harry Potter Universe in whatever way she wants. She created an amazing world and anything she wants to add is fine with me. Fans (including me) devour any little thing she puts out there. It's pretty great. 8 Quote

JessReplanted Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 We are excited. I do wish that she would put the work in to make the script into a novel. But yes, we still get excited about all things HP. 2 Quote
JFSinIL Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 It is her world, and if she feels she has more of a story to tell, she can do so. I read a lot of fan fiction (Mugglenet Fan Fiction) and am curious to see what she comes up with. 3 Quote
poppy Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 I just watched the new Star Wars film. I thought "This is exactly like fanfiction. But, hey, at least it's pretty good fanfiction". I have an expectation the new Potter novel to be the same. She is a good writer continuing her own story. (Like Lawrence Kasdan). I'll certainly read it. 1 Quote
Hilltopmom Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 I'd prefer a book rather than a script though. My dad will read it,she's a fan & also enjoys fan fiction of HP. 1 Quote
Bluegoat Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 No. I didn't really like the originals, nor the movies, so I have no desire to read a movie script of a new one. 1 Quote

It was exactly what I wanted to see (my husband and I discussed this as the book was being written, trying to decide what kind of ending would be satisfying and this is SO close to what I said I wanted that I was very satisfied indeed) -- Harry Potter finally found his family, his place to belong and had a good life. 2 Quote
OhanaBee Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 We're excited here! No one more so than my youngest who FINALLY gets to go to a midnight release the way her big sisters did back in 2007. 2 Quote

But, but, but! The kids' names! They were preposterous! Harry and Ginny named their children James, Lilly, and Albus Severus? Ginny couldn't think of a single name she liked? How 'bout Fred? Well, anyway. JKR didn't ask me. And it obviously didn't hurt her any, even if some people besides me didn't like the Epilogue either. 1 Quote
