Hilltopmom Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 I'm sure different colleges have different policies, but my kids are wondering about this: Do you have to be a full time student to join clubs or groups on campus? My son is interested in the physics club & pre engineering club and is curious if he could participate in those while DE, or are they for full time matriculated students? Ditto my daughter and the (non competitive) dance team but she's not old enough yet to DE anyways. I'm pretty sure intercollegiate sports have their own rules, but neither are interested in those. Wondering what your experience has been? Thanks Quote
G5052 Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 At the local CC, DE students are very welcome. 2 Quote
marbel Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 My daughter has been doing DE at our CC for a couple of years. She hasn't joined any yet but it's obvious that clubs are for all students, DE or not. Attending classes, have a college ID? Welcome to join a club. 1 Quote
ValRN Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 DD is doing DE but only 3 credit hours. She was allowed to join the American Sign Language club on campus. I'm guessing that clubs are for all students and the # of credit hours does not matter. 1 Quote
FaithManor Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 It is a case by case basis at Ds's college. His student lead gaming development club is not open to high school students because some of the programmers and concept artistis are working on games that might come with parental warnings, and they do not want to have to deal with upset parents, getting permission slips, etc. I think that in most cases the academic clubs are wide open as well as music. Some art clubs are off limits because they sketch nudes so that could be a big issue with high school students/parents. There are a couple of medical/health volunteer clubs that are also not open to DE due to either lack of training, or the fact that the students will be potentially exposed to body fluids and so there are liability issues. But there are a ton of clubs though so still a lot for the DE students to choose from anyway. 2 Quote
