My history from public school was pretty bad.  I've read a lot and learned a lot over the years and still feel like there are some pretty big holes.  I've always loved the idea of a 4 year history cycle and bought Story of the World Vol 1 some time ago.  I am planning to start dd with it in the fall at the latest.

I decided to take the book and a notebook with me to the beach yesterday and start reading and taking notes on highlights for dd.  I am not quite halfway through it and am really enjoying the overview of ancient history.  It is an easy read and I enjoyed the easy read for my beach time.  I have written up somewhere between 3 and 6 questions in each Chapter to go over specifically with dd.  I am also hoping writing out questions will help more of it to stick.  I really like having a better understanding of the time frames that things happen in and what was happening in different parts of the world.  I know

I have yet to decide whether my next one will be Story of the World Vol 2 or History of the World Vol 1 for more in depth study.

The Activity Book for each volume has comprehension questions already done for you. Just to maybe save you some work for the next three!! I'd recommend the History of...series as the books really helped fill in my own holes in historical knowledge. The chronological sequence is so beneficial for understanding history. It boggles the mind as to why it's not a universal 'thing' in schools.

I think she is talking the History of the Ancient World, Medevil World, etc written by SWB.

Duh, Angie! Thank you, Mama Geek. I gave up caffeine many years ago. Sometimes I think it was a bad idea.

Edited for typos.
