Faithr Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 I am trying to learn to cook with tempeh but having trouble figuring what to get. Sometimes I am not sure if it is tempeh I'm looking at or tofu or some variation? Does anyone have a particular brand they like? And how do you cook it? Thanks! Quote
Arcadia Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 (edited) Trader Joes has tempeh. I like the Indonesian ones a lot more but I can't find them here. I cut them into small strips and stir fry or I just heat it up and eat. What I love and miss eating is Gado Gado, a traditional Indonesian dish http://www.justasdelish.com/gado-gado/ ETA: I think Whole Foods has tempeh as well but I usually buy from Trader Joes. TrixieB Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 (edited) I like Turtle Island best, but Lightlife is pretty good too. I cut it into strips, marinate (from a recipe in Vegan Vittles cookbook) and fry. Edited February 13, 2016 by TrixieB Quote
MEmama Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 You can probably find it at any regular grocery store. Typically I cut it in cubes and fry it with peppers and onions, then add tomatoes or something like a fajita sauce (we like Frontier). We like it this way over rice, in tortillas, or cold over salads. Quote
Faithr Posted February 13, 2016 Author Posted February 13, 2016 Thanks, all! I am heading to Trader Joe's this morning, so I'll try something there. I guess I am making this more complicated than I thought! Quote
