Hunter Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 It looks like the revised Alpha Phonics is FREE, now???!!!! http://blumenfeld.campconstitution.net/ Also How to Tutor that includes arithmetic and handwriting. You can download separate chapters for just the arithmetic and handwriting and skip the reading section which is done much better as Alpha-Phonics. Don Potter wrote his supplements for this version. http://www.donpotter.net/reading_clinic.html The Don Potter handwriting supplement is a must read. Make sure to scroll down to the handwritten instructions that show the stroke method. http://www.donpotter.net/pdf/af_cursive.pdf Wow!!!!! I think I might just have a bit more faith in the human race. For THIS curriculum to be available to all, and for the people who made it possible to actually do that. I am blown away. Well, now, it is absolutely possible for poor kids to learn to read as easily as rich kids. And the arithmetic was written years ago in response to the first wave of new maths. It is just as timely as we are dealing with the realities of the failures of the new new maths. 15 Quote

That's how my kids learned to read - and one is in university studying linguistics in another language right now. All are pretty accomplished academically. It works. So glad it is free. Mr. Blumenfeld just died recently. He would be happy, I think. Edited February 12, 2016 by TranquilMind 6 Quote
Kristie in Florida Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 Oh my gosh. Okay, my son is only two and I totally don't need this yet, but I'm nervous about teaching reading. Do I just download everything and it'll tell me what to do? Who knows, in two to four years I probably will be able to afford a fancy curriculum. But right now I can't. It'll be good to have a back up that I understand just in case. 1 Quote
scoutingmom Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 I am impressed. I know the people involved were mainly concerned about helping people. I think it is great. Sent from my SM-T530NU using Tapatalk 1 Quote

It'll be good to have a back up that I understand just in case. This is the easiest to use curriculum that I know of. It was very popular with rural large oldschooling families. If you do a search, you will find videos that might be helpful and reassuring. You can add the Don Potter stuff if you want the bells and whistles of the current expensive curricula, but really, most students will learn to read by just reading the main book. For mom self-education, copying Alpha-Phonics using Don Potter's or Spalding cursive is the best handwriting remediation possible. This is the best phonics for cursive-first. O-G Ayres curricula do NOT work for cursive-first but Alpha-Phonics does. Quote
