JadeOrchidSong Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 (edited) Since I haven't had my period ever since early August, I am definitely menooausal now. That probably explains my bad cholesterol jump from 90 of 3 years ago to 142 now. I have been feeling very discouraged by this. Is this very common? Do you experience? Does it go down naturally over time? I generally eat very healthy and exercise regularly. I will up my exercise intensity now. Edited February 12, 2016 by JadeOrchidSong Quote
Carol in Cal. Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 You know, there might be something else going on, but 142 is still very low. Have you had your thyroid checked? 1 Quote
momacacia Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 (edited) Check thyroid---and be sure you get a full panel, antibodies and all. Edited February 12, 2016 by momacacia 2 Quote
Pawz4me Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 Ditto the thyroid check. My cholesterol (all the numbers) have always been absolutely stellar until this past year when I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. All my cholesterol numbers had moved markedly in the wrong direction. My doc assured me it was almost certainly due to the thyroid, and once I was medicated my cholesterol numbers would come back down. I haven't had them checked yet -- he didn't see any need in checking again until next year. FWIW I'm 53. 1 Quote
gardenmom5 Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 things that helped me. cut out sugar. ALL forms of sugar. artificial sweeteners AND honey, agave, etc. etc. (it's been amazing just how much it helps.) I've had several drs who've also suggested red rice yeast. 1 Quote
J-rap Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 That happened to me as well. (Increased cholesterol with menopause). I do eat quite healthy and exercise, so I was kind of surprised. The next year it was even worse! So, I don't think it goes down naturally without some changes. I've become even stricter about diet and exercise in the last several months, and I'll be tested again in the spring. We'll see! 1 Quote
