SquirrellyMama
My dd 10 has the stomach bug, and so does the family that my dd and ds babysit for. This morning my ds said the girl behind him in show choir practice threw up. He said he's feeling a little off today, but isn't showing signs of stomach bug. My son has a choir lesson today at the school, and I'm trying to decide if I should send him or not. I sent an email to the choir teacher, but I'm not sure if she'll get it in time. Would you send him, or keep him away from others just in case? Stomach bugs terrify me, because I almost always catch them if I have to clean up after the kids, which I had to do at midnight. maize
Keep him home. These things get passed around because most of the time people are spreading germs before they know they are sick.
AmandaVT
Yup - I wouldn't send him. The teacher and parents of the other kids will appreciate it!
Starr
Just to confuse things, in our family one person gets the stomach bug and the others are okay. I go by how each person feels, looks, and symptoms.
Spryte
I'd keep him home.
SquirrellyMama
I did keep him home, just in case. I got an email from the choir teacher thanking me for keeping him home :) My dd felt "off" for two days before she actually started vomiting so I thought I'd not take any chances with him. I'm not feeling so great either :( Kelly
maize
Just to confuse things, in our family one person gets the stomach bug and the others are okay. I go by how each person feels, looks, and symptoms. The problem with this approach is that viruses don't cause the same symptoms in every person. It is not at all uncommon for a bug to go through my family that causes one or two people to vomit while everyone else experiences anything from mild intestinal distress to just s bit of a runny nose. Just because it didn't manifest as vomiting in those people doesn't mean they won't pass it on to every one they come in contact with. If one kid has a stomach bug and the sibling is feeling under the weather, there is a very high probability the sibling also has the bug. might or might not eventually display all the same symptoms. gardenmom5
does he get sick easily? I'd watch him. if he starts showing symptoms before it's time to leave, I'd keep him home. otherwise, I'd send him. I have kids who do not get sick easily (but when they're sick, they're sick), and kids who get everything to which they're exposed.
Katy
Don't eat anything spicy or with onions. Causes pain when you get sick. If you can send DH to the market, get some kefir (a drink in the yogurt section). It might be too late, but it has been repeatedly shown kefir after GI virus exposure can greatly reduce developing symptoms. Clean bathrooms with bleach, NOT toilet cleaner, and don't mix toilet cleaners and bleach.
