So, I guess my ds obsession is finally getting to me,and I did pay some attention to this season. Anyone up to for some Superbowl chat?

1) Commercials: so weird! Just the weirdest and worse commercials ever. Have never paid attention to the game, but remember some of the ads. This year was just odd.

2) Cam Newton's interview afterwards...just watched it. What??? He couldn't possibly have been more rude. It just shows he was sure beyond himself that he had the championship in the bag. I actually felt bad for him, but after watching that interview... forget it! Honestly, if he's going to act like that I hope he never wins a Superbowl. Nothing against Panthers fans, but he just acted spoiled and extremely inappropriate.

3) Half time show was OK until the bgals showed up in fancy bathing suits. Have never understood why female singers refuse to wear enough clothing for the half show. It really bugs me.

4) Very happy for Denver! They conducted themselves properly and respectfully, I enjoyed watching them.

Thoughts?

My Denver relatives are happy. My Seattle Seahawks fan friends and family are happy because the Panthers lost. From what I surmise, this Cam Newton has zero friends in Seattle right now.

Other than that, I am just not a football person. We didn't watch the game. All information gathered from the proverbial water cooler at the boys classes today and from Facebook.

My brother, who has literally painted his entire house blue and green because of his obsession with the Seahawks, was super happy that Denver won. He was born in Denver though, so that's like his back up team to root for.

With the exception of Aqib Talib whose behavior was a disgrace to his team, a disgrace to the game, and a terrible example for young people watching the game.

We had a ton o' fun at our house. Lifetime Bronco fans. That has not always been easy. My dh and I used to have season tickets, and were in the stands for Elway's first game. (A stinker.). It was like getting the band back together to have Elway, Kubiak and Phillips together.

We're still doing little happy dances.

No idea who he is (I only watch because my ds loves it). Whatever he did I must have missed it. Saw nothing but for most part decent game and celebration from the Broncos...unlike the Panthers, whose bad attitude was very clear during their game with the Cardinals a couple weeks ago?

Cam Newton's press conference performance was unfortunate.  However, so was the situation he was put in . . . one of the Denver players was being interviewed adjacent to him, and he (Cam Newton) could hear the Denver player criticizing him during his own interview.  That's why he left.  IMO that's not a valid excuse, but it does put a different light on it.

Why you're wrong about Cam Newton

I was rather appalled by what I saw of Talib. He seemed clearly to be intentionally out to hurt somebody.  At least walking out of a press conference doesn't harm anyone (other than perhaps Newton's own reputation).

Best moment: Josh Norman congratulating Peyton. That is class and character.

Weirdest: the whole Naral/Doritos kerfuffle.

Cam Newton: Shockingly, he is a competitive player who just lost the big game. Why the heck do we interview them? What are we going to learn? That he wanted to win and his team didn't play as well as the other team. Um ok. Some camera person zoomed in on one of the Panthers hanging his head and obviously crying. Why did we need to see that? Of course he was emotional. This is a big deal to them.

I read that Cam was similarly rude to the fans who greeted the team at the airport yesterday. Other players waved and smiled and thanked them. Cam kept his headphones on and walked on by. I hope he matures some as his career continues. He's certainly talented.

Talib was an absolute disgrace. One of the kids watching with us suggested a penalty box for football. Two personal fouls and you sit the next quarter or you're thrown out of the game.

Really happy for Peyton. I've loved watching his career. Wonder what's next for him.

I'm a Vikings girl (for better or worse) but Denver is my #2 team. I was happy with the outcome, although I am always a fan of the underdog so I also would have been happy with a Panther win. Manning has had a horrible season, and he wasn't that great in this game either. This win gives him the opportunity to go out on a high note, I hope he does.

I was actually more impressed with the Panther's conduct than Denver's. So often players start to lash out when they get down in a big game. The Panthers did not do that, which takes a lot of self control. I also saw several Panther players (including Cam Newton) very graciously congratulate Manning. Talib was the only player who showed a lack of discipline in this game...

I think it's importing because it reveals their character to see them after defeat. For reasons beyond me, pro athletes are regarded as role models. He knows that. He plays into it when he feels like it. In this interview, he acted like a spoiled third grader who lost the little league playoff - not an adult man, highly compensated to do a job, lead a group of men, and represent both a company and a city - knowing all of it will be televised and scrutinized. I didn't expect more (I live deep in SEC country and have seen him for years acting like this), and I'm not surprised he acted that way. I think in defeat Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, and others would have handled it much more professionally. To me is a good reminder for my kids why sports guys aren't always role models. Though I would like to learn more about the guy who won the volunteer of the year award - I'll bet he's a great example for us to follow. Edited by FriedClams

I believe there is already a pending rule that 2 personal fouls will gets a player ejected from games. not sure if that is limited to Super Bowls, or not.

I believe it is two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties (it is for certain in college).  Late hits and the like are personal fouls, and taunting, etc. are unsportsmanlike penalties.  I think Talib had one of each so would not be ejected.

Come to think of it though, I am not sure the NFL even has the two-and-out rule on the unsportsmanlike.

It's not a pending rule yet - Goodell said it's something he'd like to see, but it's up to the competition committee to decide one way or another about introducing that rule.

Cam should have given a more mature press conference for sure. He did however, graciously congratulate Peyton Manning after the game:

He should have stayed, he should have been more mature at his press conference. However, players normally get about an hour after the game before meeting the media and they had much less time after the superbowl. And with Chris Harris right next to him, happily recounting how they shut Newton down, I can see how it would be harder to control emotions.

Also, even Peyton Manning isn't always a gracious loser:

Talib's face mask tackle was horrific. Good things those guys have necks like sharks. Edited to say then he admits to doing it on purpose? Not okay.

I said the same thing watching the game. They need a personal foul limit resulting in ejection. Then again, I made the very unfortunate decision to watch the Bengals/ Steelers playoff game after having taken a long break from football due to the brutality/head injury debacle. Oh my goodness what a horrible display of thuggery. The Suberbowl was croquet compared to that game. It made me feel sick.

IMO a flagrant and intentional face-masking like Talib's merits an ejection based on that alone. With the comments afterwards (confirming it was intentional, as if there were a doubt) he should face a suspension and serious fines.

There are incidental face-masks, I played the game a long time, I know this. But this was not one of those.

Were I his coach, I've have Talib's head.

I agree. Especially since this isn't his first flagrant foul- the eye poke in the Colts game. He needs to go.

I liked the Heinz commercial with the dachshunds, but I could have done without all the irritable bowel syndrome and toenail fungus commercials. Especially when I'm trying to enjoy my Superbowl snacks!

Forget suspension and fines, the dude should be banned from the game, period. He should never be paid to play again with flagrant asshattery like that.

Glad we were not the only ones puzzled by all the medical issues commercials. Those didn't go well with food and dessert :p. Just had a chance to Google the facemask incident... that's really bad. It's unfortunate they allowed him to keep playing :(
