Alicia64 Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 If you loved Galore Park, I'd love to hear about it! Alley Quote
Laura Corin Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 I loved the French, which is similar. Pros: straightforward, systematic, parts-to-whole Cons: oral materials were thin, as it was designed for classroom use by a fluent teacher. My degree is in French, so I was able to supplement - if you are not a fluent speaker, you would probably want to combine with a speaking programme. Quote
lexi Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 It comes with a CD. Would that help me out? What type of speaking program would be helpful? I haven't been able to find any other Spanish programs for middle school ages. My other option was Breaking the Barrier Spanish but it is geared for high school and it looked like it moved very quickly. Quote

You want something that makes the programme active, forcing the child to speak, to answer questions, to put forward ideas. If the CD is like the French one, it's more-or-less just reading the exercises out loud, so it helps with pronunciation but not speaking. I'm sorry - I don't have any suggestions, as I did it myself. lexi Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 Ok. I know some Spanish so I could get her to talk with me. Or we might look for a native speaker to help me out. I'm glad we aren't tackling French! I would be lost!! Quote

I'm glad we aren't tackling French! I would be lost!! What I often used to do is to go back over the exercises orally. So if on Monday we had done exercise 1 in written form, on Tuesday we would begin by re-doing it orally. Then I would start a conversation using the same vocabulary. It wasn't very sophisticated, but it got him speaking and it was a good warm-up to the lesson. Quote
