Nan in Mass Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Baked apples? Core and fill with raisins and bake. You can make a whole panful and serve with icecream, if you want to get fancy. 1 Quote
Tita Gidge Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Is this for a small group, or a large one? My easiest go-to dessert is berries in a ramekin with fresh cream poured atop. If I have sliced almonds or walnuts, I add a few of those also. But the baked apples sound really yummy, too! It's been cold here the past few days, and something hot and steamy just sounds RIGHT! 2 Quote
whitestavern Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Fruit galette? Blueberry is easy. Take a store bought pie crust and place on a greased cookie sheet. Pile fresh blues that have been tossed with a bit of sugar, flour, and lemon zest and juice onto the dough. Fold dough up and over filling. Bake til bubbly. 1 Quote
MEmama Posted February 5, 2016 Author Posted February 5, 2016 5 people, so more than I'm used to but hardly a crowd. :) Quote
TammyS Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Pear halves boiled in Pinot Noir, then coated with real whipped cream. 1 Quote
MEmama Posted February 5, 2016 Author Posted February 5, 2016 Lol to the blueberry suggestions. They have an organic blueberry farm--not sure how much they would appreciate having their own berries tonight! :) 5 Quote
AmandaVT Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Ice cream sundae bar? Buy a package of ice cream and a variety of toppings. Everyone can make their own - not much prep required and lots of fun (and yummy!) 2 Quote
heartlikealion Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Yankee Salad. You can swap out jello flavoring and fruit (one flavor of jello per recipe). We've eaten cherry, lime, orange (sprinkle, mix, and leave some unmixed on top if you want) For fruit we have always had some type of canned fruit. http://www.cooks.com/recipe/kf0ed974/yankee-salad.html Quote
Tita Gidge Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Pear halves boiled in Pinot Noir, then coated with real whipped cream. Ooooh, if she makes this I may try to wangle an invite! Quote
Tita Gidge Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 So maybe berries are out  , what about a yogurt parfait? You can cheat with store bought, or make your own. Either way, pour into mason jars or glasses with alternating layers of whipped cream. Top a banana parfait with 'Nilla wafers or a chocolate parfait with maraschino cherries or mini chocolate chips (or mini Andes mints, yum!) Quote
EmseB Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Brownies from a mix, with vanilla ice cream and strawberries. This is why I keep a costco box of brownie mix in my pantry at all times. If kids are in the group I set out sprinkles and such. 2 Quote
J-rap Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 (edited) This is a favorite of mine, but only if you like almonds. (Apple Almond Gingerbread) http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/recipe/apple-almond-gingerbread (Whipped cream on top is good!) Either that or homemade brownies. Edited to add: I make the gingerbread in a pie plate. Edited February 5, 2016 by J-rap Quote
Ali in OR Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Brownies (a la mode in this house, and haven't had a homemade brownie that beats the Ghirardelhi mix) Chocolate chip cookies (homemade. Nestle toll house recipe sounds good to me right now) Pumpkin bread (can top with whipped cream but plain is great) Ice cream sundaes (homemade hot fudge or chocolate sauce make these special and it's very easy) fruit crisp (again, with ice cream in this house. I have a bag of blackberries in the freezer that are destined for a crisp in the next few weeks) 2 Quote
Debbi in Texas Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Brownie Trifle? Boxed brownie mix baked. Spread with chocolate pudding when cooled. Top with cool whip and sprinkle on toffee bits. Quote
bibiche Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Do you have good chocolate, eggs, and sugar in the house? Make individual chocolate soufflés. Quick and easy. Quote
Nan in Mass Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Hot water gingerbread is a good idea and you probably have the ingredients already. Mixes up fast by hand and pretty quick to bake. Are you sure they are coming? My son said they are closing roads where he lives due to multicar accidents, the driving is so rotten. I was supposed to drive up to visit him today and I,m glad I was lazy and decided to stay home. Nan 1 Quote
zoobie Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 What's the rest of the meal? Occasion? You can't go wrong with brownies. Or ice cream sundaes. Or brownie sundaes. Quote
MEmama Posted February 5, 2016 Author Posted February 5, 2016 (edited) Thanks for all the yummy suggestions! You all are better than a grandma's recipe box! :) I ventured out into the storm with lava cake on my mind, but none was to be found. It's crazy snowy so I wasn't about to drive all over town, and of course in the insanity of the grocery store I promptly forgot all the other suggestions. So brownies it will be, if they make it. It's just a casual dinner. Hope all the northeasterners are safe out there! Edited February 5, 2016 by MEmama 1 Quote
