JadeOrchidSong Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 She teaches Intro to Essay Writing and Level 1 and Level 2 LToW classes live online. It might be a possibility for my advanced 6th grader in the fall. But I would like to see if anyone here has taken her classes. Reviews appreciated! Quote
JadeOrchidSong Posted February 4, 2016 Author Posted February 4, 2016 Here is the link. I am debating between LTOW Level 1 and WHA FOEW for ds. So has anyone take Jessica Shao's online writing classes? Any reviews? http://coramdeotutorials.com/courses/the-lost-tools-of-writing-level-1/ Quote

I'm fairly sure I want to sign dd up for an online LToW class next year, but I'm trying to decide between the Circe and Coram Deo ones. So, no help, but :bigear: 1 Quote

So, no help, but :bigear: How old is dd? What writing has she done so far? Ds has done WWS 1 and half of WWS 2. IEW A and B. He is doing Writing Foundations 1 live now. Quote
crazyforlatin Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Jade, did you see the new schedule? It won't work for us this year because I think one of our classes is around that time. Circe won't accept kids under 14 years old, so if we want to outsource LTOW it would have to be with Jessica Shao. Have you emailed her for references? She's responsive, and she gave a lot of details about her class. 1 Quote
Clear Creek Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 My 8th grader is currently taking the Intro to Essay Writing class. She enjoys it, and I am happy with the improvement in her writing so far this school year. It is definitely a middle school level course, but the instructor incorporates elements of LToW into the instruction, as well as a small amount of IEW dress-ups to help with style. I am happy enough with the course that I plan on enrolling my daughter in the LToW level 1 course next year. I don't know about the LToW class sizes, but her class this year is very small...I think there are only three students total. There is a lot of student participation during the classes; it isn't just a long lecture. I don't know how the other classes work, but in this class the instructor goes over the students' essays during class so they can all see what each other wrote and see the kinds of corrections she is looking for. crazyforlatin - you might want to email Ms. Shao about the times for next year and see if they are set in stone. She is still a grad student, so this year she didn't find out her own school schedule until around the same time the online class started. Once the class began she sent out a poll to the students and arranged a time for the weekly class that fit into her own schedule and worked for all the students. I don't know if that will be the case again next year, but it would be worth checking with her to find out if you really are interested in the class. Quote
JadeOrchidSong Posted February 5, 2016 Author Posted February 5, 2016 Clear Creek, What did your dd do for writing before taking this class? Crazyforlatin, are you considering the intro or the Level 1 class for dd? I wonder if I should put my younger in Intro and older in Level 1. Quote
