ExcitedMama Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 (edited) I know the Sassafras books have been pretty trashed in the reviews here but I bought them about two years ago when DS was 4 because I thought it would be a fun intro to science and animals. It was working pretty well until we moved and then it sat in a box somewhere gathering dust. DS asked for it a few times but that was before the school stuff was unpacked and then he forgot about it. By the time I got my act together to get back to school stuff it was more getting back to basics and I didn't have time or interest in science. Then we signed up for a virtual charter and I used their funds for ES Intro to Science. It's not exactly thrilling but since I'm not science inclined it's been essential to be told the topic so I can get the books from the library and do the experiment. I've been looking into my options to use my charter funds on another science and haven't been too thrilled with my options. They seem too dry and textbooky for his age. He writes pretty well for his age but I don't know that I want to kill his love of science with writings about cells. Even though I haven't loved ES I'm leaning towards their biology. My long winded question is how similar is the animal section in bio with Sassafrass Zoology? I figure this summer we should dive into Zoology since I did buy it. If 100 pages of animals in bio is the same as what we will do in Zoology then it's probably a waste to bother with ES bio. What do you think? Thanks! Edited January 30, 2016 by ExcitedMama Quote
desertflower Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 I can't compare. But I will say that sassafras is really light on science. Quote
ExcitedMama Posted February 1, 2016 Author Posted February 1, 2016 Did you use the extra books they recommend? I'm worried that the extras recommended will be the same in both books. Quote
