freeindeed Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 I might be teaching a high school co-op class on Mythology. I'd like to have one book for Greek Mythology and one for Roman mythology that each student would purchase to read at home. We would meet once a week for discussion and activities. I'd also like to know what books you all suggest, as well as other teacher resources, such as activities and discussion guides. Thanks! Quote
chiguirre Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 Trinqueta took Landry Academy's Mythology course last May. It was a lot of fun (for an academic class). They used Edith Hamilton's Mythology http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/0446574759?keywords=edith%20hamilton%20mythology&qid=1454016978&ref_=sr_1_1&s=books&sr=1-1 Some of the best projects were using Prezi to make a presentation about a god or goddess and a myth that centers on them: https://prezi.com/ Another project was to find modern references to Greek and Roman mythology and do a slideshow for 5 items. They spent 1/3 of the semester on Norse mythology and did a group project about a Norse god or goddess as well. There were some good topics for the discussion boards. In person you could perhaps do skits, learn to wrap a toga or chiton, have a banquet of what your students thing nectar and ambrosia would have been, write a short poem for them to sing as bards, etc. Enjoy! 1 Quote
3andme Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 Classical Mythology & More: A workbook may be worth considering. For a more light-hearted treatment of classical mythology try The Clay Footed Superheroes or The Original Dysfunctional Family by Rose Williams. 2 Quote
