We were using Arttango http://arttango.com/, but haven't used it as much as I'd hoped. We have consistently been using Art for Kids Hub https://www.youtube.com/user/ArtforKidsHub, Drawing Textbook, Harmony Fine Arts Sketch Tuesday prompts, and lots of nature books and some Draw Write Now books for nature journalling.  He does picture narrations for his lives of the saints and bible stories; also for his science fair background research notebook/lab notes.  I'd like to get him a camera or even an old cell phone to take pictures with.

1-2-3 Draw! books by Freddie Levin

Great for teaching careful looking and reproducing of step-by-step drawing.

The Big Yellow Drawing Book (ages 4-6)

I know this looks cartoonish, but it is fantastic for ages 4-6 as it starts them learning the basic techniques of line, overlapping, perspective, foreshortening, etc., using cartoon images so that after completing the book, children can then begin to apply these techniques to more realistic drawing.

Mark Kistler Draw Squad (ages 6+)

A terrific follow-up to Big Yellow Drawing Book, with a similar approach, but MUCH more in-depth and gradual, plus from time to time, he shows student art of applying the techniques learned/practiced in doing "cartoon" assignments to more realistic drawing. Also see Mark Kistler instructional videos on YouTube.

OR

The Drawing Book by Bruce McIntyre (age 6+)

Similar to Draw Squad (McIntyre trained Kistler!), with more realistic drawing.

Thanks, everyone! I'll have to check these out. I've heard a lot of good things about Draw Write Now and the Usborne series. The other's I"ll have to explore. Thanks for the recommendations!
