Momma H Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 I am thinking I need to get an online program. I have been out of touch for a while with what is new in homeschooling and don't know where to start! Does anyone know of something online that might cover lots of the bases for English? Quote
................... Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 If he/she has dysgraphia the worst thing you can do at this stage is use the computer for LA...you need to remediate and build strong building blocks. Take a look at Apples and Pears Spelling by Promethean Trust (it's UK but the spelling hasn't been different until book 4 and then very few)...This is an intense morpheme, multi-sensory spelling, grammar and dictation (VERY light on the grammar, only what you need to write, not memorizing pronouns, etc) program. THe students can do half a lesson at your child's age, since it's writing intensive (3 pages per day) They also offer their reading program, Dancing Bears which you should get if your child is not off the ground running with reading. Even if he or she is reading pretty well, Dancing Bears will ensure that he/she can sound out new words. Dancing Bears takes a bit of patience to use as the method uses a card with a hole in it like a little window, to force the child to learn to sound out morphemes. So, if your child is very fast and advanced at reading, it would probably not work too well. There are other programs that also remediate spelling and teach grammar at the same time- such as Logic of English. Logic of English does take a little more work but includes spelling and phonics in one curriculum along with, again, basic grammar. Hope this helps. There are some computer programs out there for phonics but I can't remember them off the top of my head. Quote
