yucabird Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 Does anyone use Music Learning Community? If so, what do you think? Is there another program you prefer? MLC is on sale at the co-op .... I'd like my children to learn some basic music theory in a low-key (no pun intended) way. Quote
Mom2Es Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 My kids liked it for a couple of weeks and then got bored with it. It's very, very basic. Are they doing the free trial offer? 1 Quote
yucabird Posted January 24, 2016 Author Posted January 24, 2016 Thanks, Mom2Es. Some while ago we tried the trial but I didn't check it out as well as I should have.... My kids are taking music lessons, and we are happy with the instruction; however, the emphasis is more on performance. If anyone knows of a good online program for music theory, I'd appreciate a recommendation. Quote
Dmmetler Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 Music Ace and Music Ace 2 is a nice software package, gentle, but thorough. It's old, though (I think I had it for the original candy colored iMacs in my classroom). 1 Quote
TKDmom Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 My kids' piano teacher uses Music Learning Community for their theory. We go in waves. Sometimes my kids use it, sometimes they prefer using a theory book. It didn't work at all for my oldest DD, because the timed quizzes would freak her perfectionist little self out. She freezes up when she's timed, then would cry because she didn't beat the timer (this was when she was 7 or 8). My youngest two like it. It's a good excuse for them to play on the computer and get "points" at piano lessons. I don't have any idea how much it costs, but if it's inexpensive, I'd get it for younger kids. If your kids are much older than 10 or 11, they'd probably find it too juvenile. 1 Quote
yucabird Posted January 25, 2016 Author Posted January 25, 2016 Thanks! I'm going to check out Music Ace, and try another trial of MLC. Kiddos are 8 and 10. Quote
