Possums can often be lured out with bananas. Coons like shiny things, like metal bowls. Have you figured out how they got in? Once you know entrance/exit paths, you could barricade it. If there is crawl space (or better) up there, we'd probably set up a live trap with some goodies inside and leave it there overnight.

Squirrels are surprisingly loud for their size. When we first moved into this house, there was an issue with squirrels and let's say squirrels without fluffy tails. We hired a pest control company to come seal everything and eradicate their existence. The little boogers chewed up some of the HVAC stuff before they were gone too. The pest control guy started saying ra-- and I would say squirrels. They're squirrels. He said but they're not... Squirrels. They. Are. Squirrels. He finally got it. There's probably a Crazy Lady note on our file, but whatever. No more squirrels.

I once woke up in the middle of the night when DH was out of town, with a raccoon in the attic. The darn thing was trying to pry off the duct for the heating vent in my kids' ceiling and come through. Since I was half asleep, I thought it was a human person and I called for a sheriff's deputy to come check it out. I guess a storm had broken loose a vent for the attic and we hadn't noticed, and the raccoon thought he'd make himself at home. Boy did I feel stupid.

Anyway, we live near a creek and we get a lot of possums, too. I hate them. I truly do. Ugly, flea infested varmints. I have a coon hound now. No more varmints.

Ain't no shame.

Have you heard the Louise CK bit about how he called the sheriff, terrified, to come get a bat? The guy came over, walked in, and literally just picked up the bat and walked out hahaha

We have squirrels in the roof.  Again.  It sure does ruin a nice relaxing bath when they start to scamper across the bathroom ceiling.

Although it does entertain the cats.

I feel your pain.

We had raccoons in our attic. The mother raccoon climbed right up the drain spout and squeezed in through some loose shingles. We had a service come and set a live trap with peanut butter.

Peanut butter catches a lot of rodents, big and little.  :)

We occasionally get squirrels in a very small attic space just above my desk.  You'd think they were buffaloes running around up there.  We also occasionally get a raccoon that pulls down the crawlspace door(has a simple latch he can open).  You can tell when he's under the house because he likes to sit by the duct-work in the living room and scratch at it.  We haven't heard him this year so DH's cinder block must be keeping him out.

We have had raccoons and squirrels. We were able to figure out how they got in and out. Then we were able to block them. It was a race against time, as we had to get them out before nesting/babies.

After a hunt/battle that lasted several hours, we have confirmed that 1--it was an opossum and 2--it no longer lives in the attic crawl space.

I think I'll get some sleep this evening.

Hoping she now lives somewhere else....?
