CC and other curricula

Hello!  I am new here.  I have two 2nd graders and two kindergarteners.  My 2nd graders currently attend a university-model school or their subjects and I recently pulled my Kers from PS and am exclusively homeschooling them.  Right now, I'm using MFW-K  and will soon begin IEW-PAL with little ones and plan to use MFW-Adventures next school year with everyone.  I also plan to continue with IEW-PAL for little ones, and IEW with older.  Math is Math-U-See right now but that may change.

Anyway, I'm looking into joining a CC community next school year.  But I am concerned the CC stuff may be too much on top of the MFW and other  curriculum.  If I had to choose one or the other I would go with MFW.  But I like the community aspect of CC.

Any insights?

Thank you!!

I think it is doable depending on how you approach it. We do CC with other curriculum. We have combined it with Sonlight in the past but that proved to be too much. Right now, we enjoy CC for the memory work, community and brief exposure to science experiments and fine arts. We listen to the memory week CDs through the week but that is it. The rest of our days are filled with our other studies (which are pretty eclectic).

We do CC as well. It is nice for the community and science/art projects. There are many ways you can approach the program. We use it like an extra curricular activity and practice memory work 15-20 min a day (just like one practices an instrument I suppose) and then use the art portion to build on during the week. We don't use a whole curriculum like MFW though.

Depending on where you live, you could also join a local like-minded homeschool group for parks days and field trips as well as special holiday events throughout the year.

I should add that I have several CC friends who do CC along with very rigorous curricula- Sonlight, Abeka and Veritas Press. I don't think that MFW at those ages would be too much. And if it is, you can always cut back to focus on reading and math and stretch out the other MFW work.

We do CC along with the curriculum in my sig. It hasn't been a problem. I designed our studies to coincidence with CC so the memory work has helped them memorize the terms they are learning about. It only adds about 30 min to our day to do the memory work and map work.
