Loowit Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 I woke up this morning with a terrible headache and congested nose. I think my kids shared their cold with me. Anyway, I need to make dinner tonight and I forgot to set the roast down to thaw yesterday, so it is hard as a rock. How well would it work if I put it in the crockpot frozen and cooked it on low all day? Quote
KathyBC Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 (edited) One of my slow cooker cookbooks has a recipe for panic roast! Pour boiling water over the top, cover, cook on low for 7-8 hours. Let us know how it turns out! ETA: And here's an online recipe http://www.food.com/recipe/panic-roast-124194 Edited January 21, 2016 by KathyBC Quote
Forget-Me-Not Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 It'll be fine; I do it all the time. Sometimes I leave it on high for a while and then turn it low after a few hours. Hope you get some rest today and feel better soon! 1 Quote
meena Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 I would cook it on high for the first few hours to get it thawed and beginning to roast, then switch to low. Hope you feel better soon. 1 Quote
wendy not in HI Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 That's what I do almost every Sunday - frozen roast, sliced potatoes, onion, baby carrots, a cup or so of beef broth. Crock pot on high for about 4-5 hours, then low (if I remember) until we are ready to eat. Yummy! Tender! Easy!!! 1 Quote
Kim in Appalachia Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 I've done it a lot of times and it comes out good. I use 2 cups of water, onions, salt and pepper. Sometimes I also throw in carrots and potatoes. Quote
KungFuPanda Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 I would thaw it in a bag water (like you do a turkey) then oven roast it. Quote
Laurie4b Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 Pot roast? No need to thaw. I cook it frozen all the time. It doesn't actually take that much longer, either. Quote
Loowit Posted January 22, 2016 Author Posted January 22, 2016 Thanks all. It turned out fine. 4 Quote
